A brilliant, driving, sprawling dream. A great place to start with Thee Oh Sees music. I listened to this while walking around various San Francisco neighborhoods at night and it made the perfect soundtrack.

My two favorite things about this band are their raw non-self conscious energy and their attention to detail in their wall of sound. This album was played live and you can tell - it's got all the grit and in-your-face energy of a live concert, and their sounds are at once 50s science-fiction spacey, 60s psychedelic/pop, 70s punk riot Ramones, 80s Talking Heads/DEVO, with a huge dose of old-fashioned rock and roll. I went around reading reviews about them and descriptions like "jagged psych-punk" and "unruly fuzzed-out freak rock" resonated (distortion abounds!). But my absolute favorite (from the Austin Chronicle?) was "Dwyer's guitar playing is best described in terms usually reserved for feral cats." (Yes it is!) I loved the use of sax on the first tune, and I love how there are no divas - the band instruments and voices are equally weighted in focus, yet you can hear everyone clearly - nice production job for a wall of sound. And the band is very tight - they read each other like music psychics.

I so liked this band that, when walking around a great local vinyl shop (Sweat Records in Miami) I bought the vinyl (I had only downloaded the mp3.) Needless to say, the sound on the vinyl was even better. Definitely recommend getting it and/or seeing them live if you can.

"Carrion Crawler/The Dream" is the second release from Dwyer and co in 2011,
and this time they really tap into a string of ferociously infectious songs.
It's the garage rock freak-out album of the year and it comes packed with
murky grooves. "Crack In Your Eye", "Contraption/Soul Desert", "The Dream"
and "Carrier Crawler" are all fueled-up, fantastic burners.
The addition of a second drummer gives a rock solid foundation for Dwyer to
scratch away at his strings and grind out some fat, dirty riffs, with Petey
Dammit and Brigid Dawson filling the gaps. A fine cacophonous mess!

Yes indeed! You can judge this one by its cover. The high energy psychedelic garage rock within will wind your brain though a playground of fantastic sounds. Indeed, you will feel like there is a zombified shock trooper dancing around a just freaking out inside of your brain. Chances are that if you dig any of this album, you will dig all of it!

I discovered this band when I saw them play as an opener and I was impressed. You gotta love a band with 2 drummers, 2 singers, bass and a 12-string guitar! The album is full of some great buzzy garage rock. Not a bad song here!
