2.0 out of 5 stars good concept, flimsy product that is cheaply made
I bought this game board for our family, thinking we would have it for years and use it often.
We used the carrom board, without the dowels, and the game was fun, but as others said, here are the main flaws:
- the "cues" are wooden dowels with a rubber piece on the end
- the pieces are thin & hollow, light plastic
- the game board itself is very...

The numerous games which can be played are a plus plus plus; however, we found the board to be very useful when playing dominos or card games on the floor or on a small table. Hands on play with friends and family can be done with this game board; doesn't require batteries or electricity. Very versatile and permits some imagination for play. A great Christmas gift for anyone who loves to play games! END

5.0 out of 5 stars Carom Board, December 24, 1999

I used to play this game for hours on end. 4 of us played, partners. The only problem we had was shooting too hard and causing the caroms to fly off the board or breaking them. 2 things that ought to be available and I have not seen them: replacement caroms and a stand to set the board on. The boards we used to play on had a 3 legged stand, with a top piece that spun aroun on the 3 legged stand. This allowed the player to bring the board around to him/her without having to stand up and walk around to the shooting area. I have in my mind an idea of how to make the stand and will probably do so, if I cannot find one. I am looking forward to teaching my grandchildren how to play the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic toy, July 21, 2000

So the cues are dowel rods, the parts are plastic, and the board is fairly thin plywood. Some modern toys wish they were half as durable, and had as much long lasting play value. The current version has been that way for 30 years. Still a great classic toy. I had hours of fun with one as a boy. And plan to get my kid's one, when it comes back in stock.

This is exactly what I expected from a starter Carrom/Crokinole board. With the bonus of having a variety of different games to play when/if you tire of the aforementioned 2.

The board is of fairly heavy ply with veneer or some sort of laminate to give the surface a nice flat, warp free surface(on both sides). I did however, (lightly)rub in some standard furniture polish to reduce the friction of the Carrom men(pieces). And this worked fantastically. The board is surrounded by a raised impact plastic covering. That both serves as a rebound edge and to protect the board when stored or in tranasit. The nettings for the pockets is descent and should withstand years of regular use.

The Carrom men(pieces) are of high quality plastic. And have a good heft to them considering what they are. They rebound and deflect off the other pieces pretty convincingly.
Also included are: Cue sticks(wooden dowels with a plastic tip), pins(for some of the games - ie. Bowling stile or skittles), lightweight plastic tops used for games like Skittles. Paper inserts(#1-15) that are cut and placed within the hollow centers of the Carrom pieces for a few of the Carrom game variations provided in the game manual. The manual itself is a compact, single fold/stapled affair. The rules are clear for most games. And a little short of description, so you may find, if unfamiliar with a few of the games, that a couple of read throughs may be necessary.

If this is your first set, or are thinking of buying a set for the "Rest" of the family or "kids" then this is a great, low-cost way to do it.

This brought back many great memories. I shared this with my husband and then with my in-laws. We've spent hours already and laughed just like my family did when I was a kid! This is great for all skill levels!

PS this particular version is traditionally crafted and hardy. It isn't particle board or cardboard.

I grew up playing Carroms and for my 42nd birthday I wanted to have my own board! My parents were here for my celebration and the game arrived the day before they were leaving. We waxed the table and began playing...now mind you that my parents haven't played in ten years or more. It has been even longer since I played. We laughed for like the next three hours! I had forgotten how much fun Carroms were! My children have been practicing to beat me! I highly recommend this game!

Purchased the Carrom Game Board as one of the games for the summer camp we are having and the kids ages 6-50 love it. Yes, 50. I teach martial arts and for this year we have included games that deals with eye/hand coordination and accuracy/focus and more. We will be looking into other games to incorporate our martial arts program and summer camp programs. I Loved it when I was young and still enjoy playing it. (...)

Because he thoroughly enjoyed playing his uncle's game (the same one we played as kids, which is still in good shape, and is used frequently at Grammy's house), we got the Large Carrom Board for our 8 year old son for Christmas. It has been very successful, and has garnered interest much longer and stronger than any of the electronic toys he has. Strong wooden/plastic construction, good quality game pieces, fairly clear directions and lots of room for creativity and interaction in play. Plus, it's fun!

1.0 out of 5 stars Fell apart as it came out of the box, December 25, 2010
This review is from: Carrom Game Board Large (Toy)
The game is much like what I played with at camp, except the quality. The unit came apart as it was pulled out of the box. The construction is really poor. The pockets are on a flimsy wire and probably will not last. The rails do not stay together. I am surprised that they were not even glued in to the end corner pieces. After several frustrating games, I screwed the corners together to keep it from coming apart. You may be able to glue it.

As far as some of the other posts complaining about sticks and game pieces, they seem to be the same as I can recall. So no complaints.

I gave one star due to having to screw the sides together.
