Book Description

April 1, 2001
With this book artist Ryan McGinness has made a unique one-of-a-kind visual portrait of the comedian Carrot Top and taken contemporary portraiture into a new realm. This is a definitive new form of art book, portrait, and biography; an outrageous collaboration between a contemporary artist and a celebrity performer.

About the Author

Ryan McGinness is an artist who has exhibited his work internationally and been responsible for numerous performance events and pranks. By combining and remixing graphic vocabularies from a range of sources, his work makes strong social commentary on iconography, language and historical and contemporary symbolism. 4.0 out of 5 stars This isn't supposed to be about Carrot Top., August 17, 2001

Perhaps the single greatest problem with other reviews of this book: they think it's about Carrot Top. Ryan McGinness usurps the iconography of contemporary culture into visual designs that force a re-examination of the source and the viewer. That's big kid stuff, but this is a monograph by an artist, not a picture book about a comedian. If you aren't familiar with Ryan's work, "flatnessisgod" is a great place to start.

hey there....i ordered my book on line and i loved it...it has plenty of beautiful pics about Carrot Top as well as alot of art surrounding the book...i'm very happy w/ it...sorry others may not be...it was more of an art book[post modern art grafics surround the photos] not a tell or gossip book like alot of people may have thought...i think it was a great project for both the preformer Carrot Top as well as the artist ryan McGinness and and shows many different sides of this preformer which alot of people may not know or are curious about....i also feel that it was geared towards a younger crowd like the collage age /post collage fans thats why alot of older/middleaged people who see it may not appreciate it like i have -ami

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother!, June 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Carrot Top (Paperback)
This is a picture book with a lot of pics that can be seen on Carrot Top's official web site. Poorly bound - falling apart after the second look-through. Even a diehard fan will be dissapointed unless you really like pictures. If you like a book with actual text to read, buy "Junk in the Truck".
