Editorial Reviews

quirky pop songs, pretty harmonies, a singer w. chops, bizarre lyrics & a sense of humor - sounds something like a cross between the Beatles' "White Album" & a garage band - the cover art is a picture of a wholesome, hearty TV dinner

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are great! January 11, 1999
Format:Audio CD
Seriously, these guys are fabulous. They kind of got some Beatles going, some good Oasis, they even got some Bowie-esque sounds, but it's not what you'd think from that description. They don't sound like a British band really, they've just got that same sort of, 'ideal form' kind of sound. You know Plato? His ideal forms stuff? Well basically (and don't bother correcting me if I'm wrong) he says the stuff here on earth is just poor copies of the ideal forms of that stuff that exist outside of our reality. So a chair is a representation of the ideal form of "chair". Get it? One thing about the Beatles is that some of their music was almost "music". Though you can buy the sheet music and it seems pretty simple, the music touches something that other bands can't reach. The Beatles got close to that ideal form "music", something resonates in it that's immediately understood, because it's close to being ideal. Well, to make a long story short- Nevada Bachelors got that same quality. You hear it and it immediately makes sense- and you wanna shake it, a lot. These guys aren't a Seattle band, their sounds are without bounds. These guys are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great September 1, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Simply great rock'n'roll music reminicent of Supergrass, Sloan, and all of your favorite bands. "Wild Boar Problem" is probably my most favorite on the album, but it's all good, good. You can't go wrong with this one. Plus, these guys are so fun to see live, if you get the chance. They do a mean version of Wings' "Jet". I vote yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yippee! Cool rock from Seattle! November 14, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Nevada Bachelors triumph! Another PopLlama gem! I'm telling you buy this record because it will make you happy. The Bachelors sing a string of songs that imbue the listener with an effervescence, an energy, an enthusiasm that's SO refreshing in the depressing world of my-life's-such-a-dreary-pit-of-despair rock and roll mediocrity embodied in the pseudo-sensitivite crying-in-their-beers strung out whiners all too prevalent in the industry today. And the Bachelors accomplish this without rose colored glasses, although I believe I've seen Mike Squires sport a pair in the past, but only literally and never figuratively. Their music is honest and open and testimonial and beyond all that is catchy rock and roll straight from the heart. Shake Yer Mop tells the story of who they are and where they've come from, and the rest of the album is song after song of solid, hook-enriched pop rock to soothe the soul. Buy this record or be square! --t.

5.0 out of 5 stars they're shakin' my mop alright October 31, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I recommend everyone pick up "Carrots and So On" by the Nevada Bachelors. The pure energy and groove of the eleven catchy songs guarantee that you'll be dancing and bopping along in your living room from the first spin.
The CD is chock-full of tunes like "New Money Parade" and "Shake Yer Mop" that bring your spirits up even on the dreariest days.
The four piece pop-rock band has a distinct sound that isn't easily compared to anything in the industry now. Comparisons run the gamut from the Beatles, Oasis, the Cure and British pop to the southern and grittier end of the rock spectrum.
That kind of diversity should tell you one thing: there isn't another like the Nevada Bachelors!
