good record, December 16, 2005

I was a fan of the teeth long before I ever heard carry the wood. they are a great, great band live and this is a good companion to those shows, but this record and their live shows are very different. Live they are very much a rock band (you could almost describe them as pub rock). with carry the wood the songs have very different arrangements. there's accordian, lots and lots of acoustic guitar, piano, horns, sleepy vocal harmonies and a whole lot of space in the arrangements. everything is so laid back it's like there was a gas leak in that barn they recorded in (not necessarily a bad thing by any means). One of the songs sounds like a long lost skip spence tune. Only the hidden track has the energy of their concerts. But it IS a very, very good record and I enjoy listening to it. THE END
