This fine work gives readers a glimpse of rural isolated Croatian farm villages. Often in these villages the men migrate for industrial work in towns, while the women maintain the farms alone. Westerlind, a social anthropologist who spent several years in Yugslavia, uses the women's own words to show how they manage to work, play, cook, give birth, and celebrate life in their impoverished surroundings. About the Author
Anthropologist and photographer Eva Skold Westerlind spent a year with these Croatian village women and shared their lives at a level most outsiders only glimpse. Westerlind, who was born in Sweden, now lives in the Seattle area, Washington. Her photographs have been exhibited widely in the Pacific Northwest and in Sweden.

A look at traditional life in Croatia,

I found this book very interesting a recieved from it a wonderful appreciation of the lifestyle of those who hold family farms in croatia. After having the priviledge of visiting Croatia, I can say this gives an exellent account of rural life in Croatia, and the hard work women do.
