5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive reference, March 14, 2006

This review is from: Cars 1930-2000: The Birth of the Modern Car (Hardcover)
Abundant information on any subject. Huge index. The late British author had a long career in automotive journalism and summons up interesting tidbits or relevant statistics on every topic, always keeping the writing lively. He covers the era to 1990, a period when the US dominated global sales (see the Fabulous Ruins of Detroit website), and another author handles the last decade, chronicling the consolidation of makers and the ascendency of the Asians. There are excellent pictures and drawings throughout, plus ads and engineering cutaways. Few will want to read all 700 large format pages, but it is still an incredible book, especially for the price.
