Meet the Agents of C.H.R.O.M.E

Lightning McQueen sets off to Japan, Italy and England with Mater in tow for the World Grand Prix. But competing against the fastest cars in the world tests more than his racing skills when Lightning realizes his wide-eyed best friend may not be the pit chief nor ambassador he needs to navigate the unfamiliar international terrain.           Mater, the rusty old tow truck, leaves Carburetor County for the first time ever and falls into an intriguing adventure when he gets mistaken for an American secret agent. Caught between supporting his best friend Lightning McQueen in the World Grand Prix and his new role in international espionage, Mater ends up in an explosive chase through the streets of Tokyo and Europe.           Finn McMissile is a master British spy. Though charming and eloquent, it's his stealth maneuvering, intelligence and years in the field that enable him to thwart unexpected attacks from bad guys. Finn's design is sleek and timeless, but he's also prepared for any tricky situation with an arsenal of ultra-cool gadgets and weaponry.

Fun and lots of variety June 30, 2011
By Lynn
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii
Fun:
We have had lots of racing games before, and we have the original Cars racing game and Mater game, too. This game obviously plays along with the spy car thing from the movie. It requires nunchuck and controller, but the "new recruit" training level from CHROME (the spy agency) takes you through all of the needed moves to do the rest of the spy training levels in story mode. So, if you struggle with controls, you should go back and do the training level. You gain energy for turbos to go faster by several methods: You can drift on corners, drive on two wheels, and even do backwards driving. You can also do jumps and tricks. The cool part about this game is the variety of types of racing you can do. There are the world cup races--simple racing with characters from the movie, including my faves Finn and Holley. You also have hunting for the Pacers and Gremlin baddies with missile launchers, machine guns, satellite rays, bombs, etc. that you pick up along the way (think Mario Kart methods) to blow up the bad guys. You can do that in hunt or race mode. There are places to go off the track and take short cuts all over the place--we haven't played enough to find them all yet. It goes to Japan, Italy, the oil rig, and London like the movie. There are several other modes that we haven't tried yet. That being said, there is lots to do in the game! You can free play, or do the story mode. The graphics are good and the sound is good. If you like racing, blowing things up with missiles, and the characters, get it.

Fun:
Update: After a few days of playing the game, my 4.5 yr old son still places last.He can place 1st in Mario Kart on certain tracks with no problems. but with Cars 2 there's too many fun distractions :). He is having a blast making the car jump around and do tricks, turbo boost off a cliff and into the water, etc etc. He's having fun so it's ok with me. Fair warning to the parents :).

When I first got this game as a surprise for my 4.5 yr old son (he loves Mario Kart and is pretty good at it), I gave Cars 2 a try myself beforehand to figure out the basics. The IGN review is accurate and I agree with their findings.
a few key items not in the IGN review (or bears repeating):
PLEASE use the Wii wheel or wiimote (no nunchuck)!! When I first played this game (and with my son) we used the wiimote+nunchuck. I did not do very well and my son kept on flipping the car on 2 wheels or flipping in reverse when he was trying to steer. Once we switched to the wii wheel, which is what we normally use w/ Mario Kart, everything was golden and both of us were having a blast.

This game is actually challenging! I'm only on Clearance level 2 and it was not a walk in the park. Still got 1st place though :). It is more challenging than Mario Kart IMO since there's different game modes and the weapons require more skill to use.

This game is suitable for kids if you're ok with cartoon cars shooting other cars with guns and missiles (I'm fine with it). If your kid can play Mario Kart then he/she can play Cars 2. Key word is "play", not necessarily "play well". The Battle Race and Attack game modes might be tricky for the younger kids (<6 yrs old). The guns and missiles require more precise aim than Mario Kart. The normal race mode is definitely doable though, we just got this game today and my son figured out by himself how to jump and do air tricks. He still drives into walls repeatedly, but he's still having fun.

My son lost interest in the movie after 40 minutes and we had to leave the theater. I kind of lost interest after 40 minutes, so I did not blame him. One of those rare instances where the game is better than the movie.

Great Game!!! July 9, 2011

Fun:
I purchased this game for my almost 7 year old son along with the Finn McMissile steering wheel and he absolutely loves it. My son would have played this game for an entire day if I didn't make sure he took breaks. I am pleased about my purchase and would recommend it to anyone.
