3.0 out of 5 stars This was good. June 15, 2006
I have played both of the 'cars' games based on the movie.

This one is more like an activity center. Quick and easy-to-master mini games are available to play. These mini-games open up quick 'races' where you simply click your mouse at the proper time to change gears and keep picking up speed. You have no other control over any other aspect of the race. There are a few other things to see and do, but the 20$ price tag is really what this is worth. My 7 year old worked through this in just a little over 4 hours. He's played it twice more, so the game does keep him interested. It IS very colorful and has the actual voices from the movie as well. This is about 500 Meg in size. It is good. But, the other 'Cars' game that is actually a game with races and total control of your car is much better. I rated that one a 5 star. It is more like a family-friendly Grand-theft Auto 3. Also similar to Simpsons hit and run.

The kids will love this one, but they didn't really offer enough content to make this game a 5 star product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good. July 14, 2006
On the box this games states that it is for ages 4+. Unless you have a child that plays video or computer games constantly, ages 6 and up would be more appropriate.

This game consists of 10 activities, each associated with a different car. Completing the activity unlocks the race secret for that partiuclar car. This allows McQueen to beat that car in the race.

The activites are cute, but require less problem solving and more hand-eye coordination. None of the activites are particularly educational, but it is still fun. Unfortunately, the way the game is set up requires the player to complete all 5 levels for each activity in order to get the secret. Many of the level 4's and 5's are too hard for kids this age (unless they play nintendo or xbox all the time) and so you have to help your kids through them. My son, who just turned 6, loves the game, but he needs help with the higher levels on some of the activites as they require quick memorization (Ramone's dancing moves), or good hand eye coordiation (Speed trap).

It would be nice if they had a "setting" for younger vs. older kids (younger kids could win after 3 levels), but otherwise it is still a great game. If you are looking for some pure fun and not a lot of educational value, then this is worth it. If you want an educational component, then you will be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the "Real" Game November 27, 2006
Beware! As someone else mentioned, this is not the Cars game that is available for game consoles. HOWEVER, he/she was incorrect about it not being available for the PC. For some reason, that game (which is previewed on the Cars DVD) which is more of a racing game with additional mini-games, most of which are fun, is ONLY available from Target. I like the movie Cars, and as an adult, have really enjoyed playing the OTHER Cars video game, exclusively available through Target.

But, if what you are looking for is an activity center for kids who like the movie Cars, this is decent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy it October 13, 2006

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
It appeared to be a surprise that Disney can't produce a reliable product.

I have installed the game on my new PC running Windows XP Pro, however, the game crashes on start up. Surpisingly, the manufacturer provides no support and their web site even has broken links.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought I was getting August 7, 2006
By mmb
I was thinking this was the same as the game cube, playstation cars game. Its ok, but its too hard and too easy at the same time. Not a lot of help unless you sit and read it to your kids, and then the games are a bit boring and not exciting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Requires latest video hardware, No Thrills December 26, 2006
By Tim C
The list of video cards in the readme file that DO NOT work is extensive. Perhaps they should have listed the ones they successfully tested the program with. The readme file instructs you to update to the latest driver if you have problems, well that's pretty insightful. In my case, and I would suspect in most cases, Windows XP SP2 has the latest driver. The readme file says downloading and installing a new driver will solve most problems. There is no other action recommended or contact information provided. i.e. if it doesn't work on your machine, sorry, it works great on the development platform.

3/31/07 - Runs on nVidia 6200 256 Mb. I figured since it required latest graphic technology it would be very cool. Now I wonder why it would not run using on-board graphics, there's nothing that looks too intensive here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cars ages 4 + maybe 5+ August 28, 2006
My Grandson gets frustrated with some of the games because they are too hard for him also for an adult.

He loves Cars and very excited to play it but it is not easy and just gives up after not being able to complete the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars My 6 year old would give it 5 stars June 21, 2006
It is a cute game.

He says he loves it and it is fun.

He really enjoys playing it, but he does need help getting through all 5 levels to win his "secrets".

It is a pretty simple and easy layout- definately only for kids to enjoy more then an hour.
