I bought a pocket microscope from Amazon. I wanted to keep to under $10 because, well my child is only 4 1/2, and when you are 4 sometimes things break. I also wanted something we could easily take with us in our nature bag. I looked and searched and finally, at last, narrowed it down to a couple and went with the CarsonMicrobrite 20X-40X Zoom LED Lighted Pocket Microscope. Most of the reviews were very good and I wanted something that would be small but substantial enough that the fingers of a 4 and 5 year old could easily work it. The Carson Microbrite fit the bill to a "T."

You can read the rest of my review on my blog as well as see pictures. I tried to download pictures and couldn't. I was very very impressed with this product. [...]

For less than 10 bucks, you might spark the interest of the next Madame Curie! ;)

What a great gift idea for kids. Their natural curiosity and this cheap Microscope might be all that's needed to spark a young person's interest in science and nature. Would make a great prize or reward, too.

My parents bought me a cheap toy telescope and later a cheap microscope when I was a kid and it did indeed spark a lifelong love of science and nature. Looking back, I can't believe how many fun hours I had with those two "toys." At the very least it might give 'em a new appreciation for the mystery and magic in the natural world around them.

Keep one handy, use it yourself and if your child or grandkid (or any young person) shows interest -- give it to them and get another. At this price, hard to go wrong.

Worst case, you have a fun toy for yourself. ;)

This was especially great for my son who go this toy for his 4th birthday. He didn't really understand what the microscope was doing and how something he saw with his eyes looked so different with the microscope. However, after a few minutes playing with it, it clicked and he had so much fun with it. My 6 year old son enjoys it as well not to mention my wife and I had our turns.

We haven't used the slides yet but found just hold it up agains a shirt, the box it came in, skin, hair, and other random things were a lot of fun and educational. We are going to get one fore my nephew as well.

this product is perfect for "on the go" magnification of sperm samples. before purchasing this item i literally had to guess what the activity percentage of my spermazoa was. absolute life saver. my only qualm with it is that the super bright LED does run down the batteries quite quickly.

It works better than I expected. The image is sharp and lit fairly well. It's just a tiny bit on the dim side. I have no issue focusing at any magnification. Very easy to use and well built.

For under $10, this is a great deal. The magnification is clear and my kids are enjoying using it so much that I had to buy one for each instead of them sharing. The build is quite cheap, it really feels like a toy but again, for the price, I think it is a good deal and functions well. You can use it with or without the base and it comes with 2 slides. We have a collection of various specimens on slides that were for a microscope and I was very glad that those slides fit on the removable base for viewing. I really don't know about the ruggedness of this product or how long the batteries for the led will last, I guess I'll find out as my 9, 10, and 12 year olds use it and update this post if there is anything worth mentioning!

I'm one of those people who are hard to shop for; I have everything. This thing is awesome for exploring everything. I got one and my coworkers started to order this because it's so much fun! Much more entertaining than going to the movies for the same price.
