4.0 out of 5 stars Not Glass for a reason
This is a plasic frenel lens. One side has grooves that if you look sidewise on, or edge-on, you will see a sawtooth curve radiating from the center. To create a 3X convex lens this size in glass would weigh a number of pounds. Wash with lots of soap, and air dry. Easy to scratch. This was invented for stage arc spotlights, due to exploding convex glass lenses. Audiences...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not glass
The product description fails to say that this is not made of glass. We ordered this, and was surprised to see a plastic sheet kinda magnifier(kinda like laminated paper). It requires to be held at 4 inches from whatever you need to read. Because, it's not glass, it tends to bend a lot and hence distorts parts of the text...I think, it is a waste of time!

3.0 out of 5 stars Page Size Magnifier, September 30, 2005

The description of this product did not indicate that you have to hold the magnifier 4" away from the page. Had I known this, I would not have purchased it. I need to have my hands free to type.

I think this information should be included in the item's description

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good for reading., June 19, 2007

I grabbed this fresnel lens because my mom's magnifier is too small for reading. The distortion from flexibility and height/angle required aren't useful to her. Rather than sending it back I proved to my family that peter pan lives inside me. This device is good for directing a large spread of sun light into a focused point that gets so hot that the cast off light is blinding. I burned some weeds in the yard for a half hour or so. Then I tried making it into a diopter lens for macro photography it sort of worked but I will need a far better lens to get something like this to work.

Anyhow, I don't recommend this be purchased for reading. If you are a pyromaniac, geek, or have another need for the lens - more power to ya.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too flimsy to be useful, November 13, 2007
It flops, it bends, it distorts whatever you try to read. It was a waste of time and money for my mother.

Advantage--light weight, flat[may be carried in book being read], wont shatter.

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT NOT TO BUY, April 17, 2008
THE PRODUCT WAS TOO DIFFICULT TO SEE THROUGH. TOO MUCH TIME WAS WASTED ADJUSTING THE PAGE MAGNIFIER TO GET A COMFORTABLE READ ON A BOOK. WASTE OF MONEY, AT ANY PROCE.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless???, February 17, 2008
This product does not magnify as advertised. Item must be held away from pages and cannot be held manually without a curve in the magnifier. This causes continual distortion and poor readability.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mag Sheet, July 18, 2007
Not bad but I got a raw deal on shipping. It comes in an envelope and there is no way it should have cost $7 to ship two being such a light item to ship.I wish I had gotten one that is firm. This is very bendable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it., May 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Carson Optical MagniSheet Fresnel Magnifier (Sports)
This product does nothing to help you see what you are reading. It is cheap and distorts everything you are trying to read. I can see most things with my glasses. I purchased this because one of my school books had real tiny print. When I tried to use this I kept moving it in and out to see if that would create a point of focus. There was no point other than this was a pointless effort. There is no ability to focus because the magnifier is cheap plastic. You are better off purchasing a magnifier from a local optician. This is one of those things you need to evaluate in person. If I had the ability to try this out before buying it I wouldn't have bought it because it does not work at all. If they had a rating system of negatives I would have given this product a -5.
