I've been reading Cody Lundin's books and agree with his assessment that having multiple ways of starting a fire is key in a survival situation. This small, pocketable magnifying glass, assuming you have enough sun light, works well enough to start a fire. You can easily put it in your wallet, survival kit, or glove box and know you have a solid way to start fire in certain conditions. Also helps with reading your topo map.

Photo does not match what you purchase. I received a light up silver colored magnifying glass, which was NOT what is in the photo or even the name (MagniSlide) <--there was no sliding out of the sleeve. There was no sleeve at all.

The magnifier I received looked exactly the same as the advertised product image. Note that you cannot pull the lens out of the sleeve completely. Works great as a magnifier but the real reason why I got this was to have another way of creating fire which it does very well. I definitely recommend it as an addition to your survival kit.

this is a waste of money, item lasted a couple of days in my wallet before it cracked. this is nothing but a piece of plastic in a flimsy vinyl envelope

I bought this as a survival fire starting tool, It works great. The lens is thin and flexible. The dimensions of the lens itself are 2"x3.3"x.020"

THis small pocket magnifier works great and you can carry it around with you. It makes a nice backup if you are without your reading glasses.
