5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Soulful Dance Music, June 29, 2000

This review is from: Carte Blanche (Audio CD)
Dance music lovers will need no introduction to Naked Music Recordings, they've seduced ours ears with gorgeous releases like 'Music and Wine' by Blue Six and 'Surrender' by Petalpusher and earned plaudits on both sides of the Atlantic. On their latest release they have enlisted U.K. outfit The Amalgamation of Soundz to mix up a sublime blend of sweet, soulful house and deep, jazzy beats. Some of the names may be unfamiliar but the quality of these tunes will make fans of even the casual listener. Featuring tracks and remixes by Swag, Jazzanova, Isolee, Only Child and Amalgamation of Soundz themselves 'Carte Blanche' bears all the hallmarks of a Naked Music release - brilliant tunes, elegant packaging and an uncomprising commitment to quality. Listeners impressed with this selection will also love Naked Music's previous releases such as Nude Dimensions Volume 1 as well as Amalgamation of Soundz two previous mix albums 'A Room With a View Volumes 1 & 2'.

5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY ECCLECTIC!!!, July 17, 2003
This review is from: Carte Blanche 1 (Audio CD)
"Carte Blanche Volume 1" is the perfect CD for parties, loungin' around or for wallpaper music. It's not overpowering with filler garbage or overused chillout songs or even techno/D&B beats professing to be chillout. The mixture of breakbeats, jazz and funk on Carte Blanche is sure to win over any average music connoisseur. The mixing and music selections are stunningly appropriate, and the songs accentuate each other. The amazing and most impressive thing about the Naked Music Records label comp CDs is the uniqueness of their songs and the unaccessibity of the artists in most records stores. The bad thing is once you've heard most of the songs on their discs, you're frantically looking around for more material from the featured artists. However, you'll find solace in knowing that "Carte Blanche" is more than enough to tide you over in the meanwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars if you like it chilled, you will LOVE this whole label, December 24, 2001

We work, we have families, we aren't in the life (ok, maybe we are, but that's another review...) and so we come to trust others to search through volumes of material and select the best. That's what the Naked-Music label does for me. I love (and own) everything they put out. Deep house, chilled, danceable, partyable, at the beachable. This first compilation CD in the Carte Blanche series set the tone for the others that followed. These are all good. Smart, sexy, lucious. Check it out: do a search for "Carte Blanche" and there it is: 5-star reviews all the way. Follow this label.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you can judge a book by its cover, this one lives up, April 9, 2002

A great mix of chilly acid jazz with a splash of soul. Perfect for the newly curious -- perfect for dinner parties, or any other time you're just sitting around drinking. In fact, I've found the only time it isn't perfect is first thing in the morning (tried it). What's more, there are seemingly dozens more albums on the same theme, so when you hear this and just can't get enough, you have plenty of choices.

I have to say as a naked music fan getting albums in a random order I came away not too impressed. The production of this album is really really good. Still i found that some tracks were a little average for a naked music album. This has to be the first I gave 4 stars ever. I hope to see more variety in the next volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hypnotic, May 28, 2009

I remember in 2000 going to the local lounge bar with my then fiance (wife now)and the first song the DJ dropped to start off the party was "The Groove" by Global Communication I remember saying "Holy Sh@#!" I left my fiance on the dance floor and ran over to the DJ to ask who that was. The next day I was at the record store buying "Carte Blanche Vol 1." I was not disappointed when I heard the whole CD. Being fan of Hip Hop and R&B this CD in my opinion has everything you like (Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz and Downtempo). I become a fan of Downtempo music, but I use all the Carte Blanche series as my blueprint when it comes to picking out Downtempo and if it's not on the level of Carte Blanche series (or any Naked Music product) I AM NOT BUYING IT!

I've been searching for music like this since finding out about Cassius. This is a kickin' CD. The grooves are positively propulsive. Carte Blanche is why I listen to music. It doesn't matter if it's Johannes Bach or James Brown; good music is joyful to hear.

Again Naked Music bring us another great album. If you're that cool-man, under 25 years old, who loves to drink a great rink with a stylistic & exotic beauty girl while listening some beats and vocals as background music, that's the album of the year. A great compilation with the best trip-hop of the 2000. Please enjoy at your leisure...whenever the mood suits you!!!
