A NOTEWORTHY COLLECTION,
This review is from: A LA Carte a Tour of Dining History (Paperback)
If dining is one of life's pleasures, surely this stunning collection of menus is a feast for the eyes. Divided into six chapters, menus are presented for modes of travel (airplanes, trains, ships); restaurants and hotels; special events (the bill of fare for a reception and banquet honoring Charles Lindbergh is set on banks of clouds); political and patriotic events; holidays and the final section is devoted to menus of special construction. More than a compendium of distinctive artistic menus, A La Carte is a historic treasure of our country's dining tastes and habits. Many of the menu covers are works of art in themselves. All are noteworthy. - Gail Cooke |
