"Jake Carter And The Nightmare Gallery," nails what great young adult fiction should be.

Kevin Folliard creates a hero to all daydreamers in the character of Jake Carter. He's the quiet kid with the big imagination and it's Jake's ability to make believe that is a potent force throughout the book, both in the main story and an integral part of his character.

"Jake Carter.." knows when to ebb and knows when to flow. It's disturbing, but not disgusting. There's lots of action, but its all meaningful. It knows when to let the characters breathe just long enough before it throws them into the ringer once more. Most importantly, it builds on itself and never goes for broke until the very last minute.

I easily recommend this story to anyone who loves action cartoons with a high concept idea, wrapped in a message about love, loss and dreams.

After reading Folliard's "Christmas Terror Tales: Stories to Enjoy from October through December," I looked to see what else he had written, and came upon Jake Carter and the Nightmare Gallery. At first I thought it was probably more targeted towards middle school aged boys, but it was a thrilling page-turner that I (a woman in my twenties) simply couldn't put down! The fantastical world that Folliard (and Jake and friends) created kept me reading into the wee hours. I would love to see a sequel! I have already recommended this book to several others and will continue to do so. Looking forward to more great reads from Folliard.

Anybody remember this passage "You are about to enter another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!" Book took me back to this type of environment as your dreams are capable of becoming reality were you hooked up to Dr. Shade's dream machine, whom has thoughts himself of broadcasting a signal to murder all in the world but those with the most imaginative of minds. Pretty darn good book with interesting characters making for an entertaining read!

The allure and excitement of being young again is something that many of us long for and being able to step into a youthfully charged magical world- through the ripened imagination of an accomplished author is one way to achieve the impossible.

Kevin Folliard has stepped up once again and delivered to his readers a story that will inject a whole lot of fantastical delight and dreamy fright into this Halloween season. His characters of the likable youngster Jake Carter and the evil and sinister Dr. Shade come alive on the page and the concept of this story contains all of the elements of what holds us to a tale such as this and keeps us wanting more and more word after word after word. In this story the dream world and the real world begin to offer equal appeal and the characters, especially brothers Luke and Jake, are forced to choose in which world they will live.

To live in the dream world enables one to create their own world as if one is living in a real life SIMS game, so the allure is very appealing for someone who has spent hours and hours creating a simulated world- like me. But the path of this story leads to a very dark deceptive plan, devised by Dr. Shade, that removes all of the exciting elements of a magical dream world.

So, open the door to Kevin Foliard's Nightmare Gallery- if you dare. You'll be glad you did!

Good book. Quite suspenseful; I tried to predict the ending and failed :)

There are some descriptions of nightmares, so I wouldn't suggest it for anyone younger than a pre-teen.

Loved it! I wish there was more. I hope you will write a sequel and tell us more since you left a cliffhanger.

Folliard draws mystery and intrigue from the far
depths of his whimsical imagination to create a scary saga that keeps you guessing, pulling back
just at the brink of each twist and turn. Jake, his twin brother, and the sinister Dr. Thaddeus Shade
are caught up in and emotional and intriguing triangle, through a bizarre journey. A great read.
