More About the Author

Hello~ (waves)

I didn't begin writing until after undergraduate college. There'd been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can't blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I'm hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

Keep track of me through facebook at Tijan's Books!

So I absolutely LOVE Tijan and I couldn't wait for this read. This ends up at like 2.5 for me. Just OK for me, or maybe just too short to even be OK. Sorry! *Spoilers ahead!* There is absolutely no true character development for the hero, Carter Reed, and the heroine, Emma, either. Absolutely very little complexity or depth to them at all. No, Carter did not end up as a book-boyfriend of mine. The heroine is whiny and complaining throughout most of the book. There's no spunk to her to her at all. Her relationship with Carter almost comes out of the blue when, at 40% (after she's asked Carter for help and they've exchanged a total of, like, 20 words) they're in love. Both of them. WHAT? When did this happen?!

He has gone on a mass murdering spree for her, and we never really get to see WHY he's doing all this other than her dead brother and because "it's for her". Really - what does he see in her? What did they share in the past or even present to make him do all this for her? There's NOTHING. NOTHING we can see or be convinced of. They have no communication, no common interest, share very little with each other, just seem to be going through the moves as the plot demanded them to. I don't buy into the "suddenly in love" part when he appears until like 12% and then there were tons of scenes in between where they hardly interacted. The rest of the scenes between them, after the 40% "WE'RE IN LOVE" revelation, are EMO and OTT. Where's the growth in the relationship? There is NONE. No build up, and no growth later.

She ends up with this killer who she supposedly knows as young but we don't even see a glimpse of their former interactions and they hardly have a decent conversation in the present where she's not needing to be reassured.

I wanted to love this book. The blurb was right up my alley. But as I read I felt like there were a lot of things missing. I never felt that passion between the two characters except when they were having sex which was often and random. I just felt I was missing their connection. I really just didn't get it. I am so bummed that I didn't love it. I felt that there were a lot of time when the author was saying the same thing yet not saying anything at all. Oh well can't love them all!

This was a book that really, really struggled to review.

If I was going to base this book on just the lead female, Emma--it would get a two.

But since Carter was so awesome, and the rest of the characters make a sort of epic emotional evolution I had to get the story as a whole credit where it is due.

So, I was off to a great start.

Enter girl. Enter girl coming home early. Enter girl walking in on her friend being brutally rapped and beat so bad she was pretty much close to death at the rate this dude was going at her. Enter friend mindlessly walking to a floorboard. Enter girl grabbing a loaded gun. Enter girl whimpering said rapists name. Cut to girl shooting rapist point blank in the head.

AWESOME START!

I admit, if I was in her place--I would shoot the guy too.

I have a very low tolerance for sex crimes. Therefore, killing the culprit. I am in favor of this type of violence.

So, we continue.

Now, girl needs to be protected because go figure. Rapist is the son of a mob enforcer (This isn't totally laid at but this is what I'm assuming since this dudes men are the ones doing the hits on people.)

Enter--Carter Reed.

Now, I was giving Emma a huge amount of leeway. I mean her best friend is broken. She had to shoot someone in the head. And now she faces the possibility of her life being ended very horribly by mob enforcers. I might have a mini meltdown at this point too.

However, this mini meltdown continues throughout the whole book.

I mean I consider myself a pretty strong person. I would have done the same thing if I was here. Yet, if a mob family was after me?

Huge disappointment. Like others here I jumped on the book because of the positive reviews. I’m sorry but I feel like this book got a huge pass for some reason. Perhaps the author’s other books are 5 star worthy but this one certainly isn’t and needs to stand on its own merits.

I tend to overlook “some” errors when I rate a book with a story worth reading but this one? No way. Too many errors that became a reading distraction for me. The characters were not developed enough for me to like them. Carter Reed was the only one I found intriguing but it wasn’t enough to carry the entire story for me.

I think the premise of the story was promising but it fell flat. Giving lots of detail in areas where it wasn’t really necessary and not nearly enough in other places where it would have benefited the story and reader.

I bought this book because of all the rave reviews and ratings it received. One quarter of the way into the book, I started to think this has to be a joke. Half way through I thought every person who rated it an "AMAZING 5 STARS" must have been delusional. This book rambles on and on, has so many grammatical errors I've lost track, and the secondary characters sounded like complete idiots. I'm sorry, but I've never seen so many people completely get snowed by a book before. For all who read it and raved about it, go back and re-read it. You'll realize you were reading it through rose colored glasses.
