Carter Sisters with June at control,
This review is from: Carter Sisters & Mother Maybelle with Chet Atkins: 1949 (Audio CD)
This is a nice collection of songs and some picking'. It appears to be edited from a radio show from 1949. June Carter does the hosting job and her sisters and Mother all get a chance to sing. One of the things that make this a worthy album to have is there are many songs that I've haven't heard of before. The album has near excellent sound. Any fan of the Carters, Chet Atkins (he sings on a few) blue grass and/or the county sound of the 40s, 50's will find this a nice addition to their collection. There are 3 difference albums out that I know of and all are excellent. Found this at a second hand store and had to buy the other two out there. If there were 20, I would buy them all.

This review is from: Carter Sisters & Mother Maybelle with Chet Atkins: 1949 (Audio CD)
Guitar great Chet Atkins early in his career, performing along with the re-formed Carter Family. These are old radio transcription recordings; because these old radio shows were often only fifteen minutes long, musicians did shortened versions of their popular songs. You can get longer versions by tracking down the studio versions (assuming there is one; often the radio shows included songs that they never put on wax) but this is a chance to hear the artists performing live, and to get a hint of what their live shows were like. Just not worth it.,

This set of recordings is just not worth the price. Very limited in content, with 37 or 38 songs there is just no way there could be much to listen to. "In the pines", a favorite of mine, is a mere 50 seconds long! How and why???
