That said, I think Carter's should be ashamed of themselves for the price gouging clearly going on with this product. They know that they have parents in a bind because most new mom's want their nursery to match right down to every little detail and they are pricing the product accordingly. This mobile would be fairly prices at around $25. Pricing this mobile at $40+ is high-way robbery and I reduced my review by 1 star accordingly.
The fabric that covers the arm looks incredibly cheap. The crossbar the animals hang from looks cheap. The bottom (conveniently hidden in the picture of the mobile) is glaringly white and plastic and looks awful against my cherry crib. If I had seen that in the product photo, I would have never bought this piece. There is one lullaby that plays with a wind, which is fine with me, but you can barely hear the music over the noise the gears inside make.
Like another reviewer said, I wouldn't be upset if we had spent $15 or $20 on an item of this quality. But for this price and for this brand? I'd expect much better. I will be writing to Carter's, as well. At the very least, they should change the picture on the product page to adequately show what the mobile looks like.
On another note, when we bought it (a year ago +) I instantly thought it looked very cheap and was disappointed but since it matched, I kept it.
The mobile requires some assembly and unlike other reviews we have no problem with the weighting. What we DO have is a Boori cot (typical cot in Australia) that makes it next to impossible to attach the mobile securely to- definitely impossible for the head of the cot, and we don't even have a sleigh style.
The sides of your cot need to be perfectly straight - even over the rail part- or this mobile is unstable, therefore unsafe. We had to use 'packers' to be able to get this to sit properly, and even after all that, the mobile is not in the centre (which might be because we had to attach it to the side)
The animals are cute, and I love that they face down towards bubs. The music is an excellent volume and unlike the other reviewer we cannot hear any 'gears' or motor.
As another reviewer pointed out, there is a large plastic wheel arrangement (white) to secure this to the cot. This didn't bother me as I have no idea how else it would attach- and my furniture is a dark timber.
The whole mobile is covered in a brown sleeve which you can remove and wash (hand) if needed.
Mobiles was one of the only things I did not research when creating my gift registry, and I wish I had- I would not have gotten this mobile. It SHOULD be comparable to other mobiles of the same price, but it isn't. For the same price, you can get a mobile that not only runs on batteries (allowing the music to last much longer) but also has a remote control. It's adorable, and my newborn loves the to look at it and listen to the music. I use it to distract him when I'm changing his clothes, swaddling him or walking about the room. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Meghan Ferris

This product really doesn't work for anyone with a decorative crib. Works best if the sides of crib are straight across. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Misti
