These are large and very useful blankets, perfect for swaddling! They stay fairly soft and end up being all purpose in my household: burp cloth, play mat, swaddle blanket, carseat blanket etc.

These receiving blankets are perfect for swaddling because of their size. I haven't been able to find other receiving blankets as long as these. Plus, they have really held up after numerous washes as they tend to get used for burp clothes too.

Nice and large for swaddling,
This review is from: Carters Wrap Me Up Receiving Blanket (Baby Product)
The 30x40 is a great size for swaddling babies. The usual 30x30 size is just to small to give a baby a good swaddle. This size is perfect for getting a nice tight wrap for baby to settle. I used these with our first baby, and I'm buying more for our second.

Shrinking and pilling issues, but color doesn't fade.,
This review is from: Carters Wrap Me Up Receiving Blanket, Brown/Sage Circles, 4 Pack (Baby Product)
Despite the typical receiving blanket size, somehow these have just ended up shrinking. We wash in cold water, and tumble dry on the lowest heat setting. They shrunk to a point where they were not usable to swaddle our baby, he was 5lbs 4 oz at birth, and even at this beginning point it was a struggle. By the time he reached 7lbs, we couldn't use these for this at all anymore.
Luckily, we have found them extremely beneficial for tucking in around him after he's buckled into his car seat for an extra layer of warmth. We also use them for spit up, and to place under him during nursing. They do have a bit of a pilling problem. It isn't enough so that I wouldn't use them, just disappointing that the flannel isn't of a higher quality. The colors do stay fairly vibrant, even after many washes. Though we've had luck with other Carter's receiving blankets, these particular ones, (Brown/Sage Circles) have definitely deterred us from purchasing Carter's brand blankets. We've actually had better luck with the Babies 'R' Us brand, Koala Baby, and they are a bit cheaper as well.

Cute designs, great size, but looked fairly worn after 1st pre-use wash,
This review is from: Carter's Wrap Me Up Receiving Blanket, Monkey (Baby Product)
We really liked these blankets - we got them at a carters outlet for a very discounted price, I was surprised to see the amazon price for these. GIven the price i paid i was very happy with the purchase, with the biggest (and really only) disappointing aspect being the color fade and slight pilling after the 1st preuse wash. What i like: size is awesome - perfect for swaddling a newborn, was big enough to use as an extra warm layer onto of my Arms Reach co-sleeper sheet, but could also be used as burp clothe or to drape over the car seat when baby's sleeping. Very versatile blankets. I really liked the patterns/design/print - very cute. Have gotten comments and inquiries multiple times when I've use the monkey one out. It's fairly soft and perfect for layering.

These blankets are soft and I like the prints and colors. But they do fade quite a bit after just one wash.

dont wash very well...,

Love the patterns on these simple blankets but they really wash badly. Super linty and they faded immediately. I keep one in my diaper bag in case I need to put baby down somewhere and want a clean spot for her and I use the other in a similar way at home when I dont want to ruin my nicer blankets.

Great for other uses, but just okay for swaddling,

This review is from: Carter's Wrap Me Up Receiving Blanket, Monkey (Baby Product)
Since the nursery theme for my baby is monkeys, I had registered for anything cute and monkey related on my baby registry. The Carter's Receiving Blankets were one of the items and I received it as a gift prior to my baby boy was born. There are four blankets, but only one out of the four has monkeys on it. The other three blankets are different patterns. Since they are all different colors, I would have preferred monkeys on all of them. The material is cotton flannel which didn't seem too soft to me when I opened the package, but after I washed it, it was softer. The blankets felt heavyweight compared to other receiving blankets which seem a lot lighter. I wasn't sure if I wanted to wrap my baby in it. The blankets were already washed and packed in my baby bag for when I went into labor. After seeing the blankets the nurses used to swaddle my baby, I decided to try it with the monkey one. One problem was that it was difficult to swaddle since the blankets are rectangular (30 x 40"), usually square blankets are better to wrap with. Also, my baby was already 21 inches in length when he was born, so there wasn't too much leg room when I tried to swaddle him. Babies need some room in the leg area, wrapping them too tight down there can result in hip dysplasia. Even though the blanket just barely swaddled him, most likely, he'll grow out of it quickly. When we were bringing our baby boy home and put him in the carseat, we used two of the receiving blankets, one on each side of the head support rest. The blankets kept him from moving around from side to side. To this day, we still use them in the carseat for him. Another use for the blanket was to use as a large burp cloth/spit up guard. We would lay the blanket on his swing seat behind his upper body and head in case he spat up and on his activity gym playmat as well. I wouldn't recommend these blankets as swaddling blankets unless your baby is really small. We only used it for other uses only because we didn't want it to go to waste.

Good Blankets, Awesome Burp Cloths,
This review is from: Carters Wrap Me Up Receiving Blanket, Brown/Sage Circles, 4 Pack (Baby Product)
These are nice multipurpose blankets. They're fairly lightweight. They are larger than many other receiving blankets which makes them good for swaddling. They hold up well even after lots of use/washing. My favorite use for them is as a burp cloth. They're large enough to completely cover my shoulder as well as generous portion of my chest and back(as opposed to traditional burp cloths which only cover a small part of my shoulder-and that's never the part my son spits-up on). They're also pretty absorbent, especially if you fold them in half.

Good, but not best (especially for summer baby),

These rectangular receiving blankets are nice for swaddling because they are bigger in one dimension than the usual square blankets, but about the same cost. And I do love all of the fun, colorful prints that are available. However, I would recommend spending a little more money to get the bigger square muslin blankets, especially if you have a summer baby that likes being swaddled. Our 9lb July baby quickly outgrew these and was way too warm during the summer in these flannel blankets.
Overall, they are still good blankets for many other things and I expect we'll return to using them in the fall/winter. |
