Despite the typical receiving blanket size, somehow these have just ended up shrinking. We wash in cold water, and tumble dry on the lowest heat setting. They shrunk to a point where they were not usable to swaddle our baby, he was 5lbs 4 oz at birth, and even at this beginning point it was a struggle. By the time he reached 7lbs, we couldn't use these for this at all anymore.
Luckily, we have found them extremely beneficial for tucking in around him after he's buckled into his car seat for an extra layer of warmth. We also use them for spit up, and to place under him during nursing.
They do have a bit of a pilling problem. It isn't enough so that I wouldn't use them, just disappointing that the flannel isn't of a higher quality.
The colors do stay fairly vibrant, even after many washes.
Though we've had luck with other Carter's receiving blankets, these particular ones, (Brown/Sage Circles) have definitely deterred us from purchasing Carter's brand blankets. We've actually had better luck with the Babies 'R' Us brand, Koala Baby, and they are a bit cheaper as well.

These are nice multipurpose blankets. They're fairly lightweight. They are larger than many other receiving blankets which makes them good for swaddling. They hold up well even after lots of use/washing.

My favorite use for them is as a burp cloth. They're large enough to completely cover my shoulder as well as generous portion of my chest and back(as opposed to traditional burp cloths which only cover a small part of my shoulder-and that's never the part my son spits-up on). They're also pretty absorbent, especially if you fold them in half.

These blankets are just okay. They are only finished with a serged edge, which I think makes them look cheap. They either shrank unevenly, or were never even to begin with, as they are quite obviously not a rectangle. The print is nice, but fades, and they are soft. There are much nicer blankets available that cost about the same. I was disappointed- normally I'm a huge Carter's fan!

Cute design, but really disappointed in the quality. These aren't soft at all- rather scratchy in fact, even after washing. I certainly wouldn't use these for swaddling. I'll probably only use them to hang over car seats/strollers.

I first started using these blankets in 2008 after my daughter was born. I loved them from the start. They are so soft and are great for covering baby in carseat. Plus they come in such cute patterns! I didn't use them for swaddling then because my daughter hated being swaddled. I bought another 2 packages of them in boy designs when my son was born in 2010. They were the only blankets big enough for swaddling, which is the only way my son would sleep for the first four months. BTW - I still use the girl blankets I had with my daughter and they are still in great condition, three years later. Now that I am pregnant again, I am just waiting to find out the sex of the baby (10 more LONG days - lol) to buy even more.

They are my baby shower gift staple. Every mother I have given them to completely agree that they are the best blankets you can buy without spending a ton of money. These are definitely a must have for anyone with a newborn.

BTW - Definitely cheaper to buy them here on Amazon rather than at Babies R Us. At BRU they are a good $3-6 more.

Firstly, I wish if the product name specified that these were flannel blankets. I was looking for the stretchable ones and ended up buying these. They are soft and I liked the print and colors, but as other reviewers have mentioned, they fade after washing and shrink too. My baby tries his best to squirm out of the blanket when wrapped, hence I prefer the stretchy ones. So to make these work I wrapped him first in this blanket and again wrapped him in a stretchable type. This way, he was warm and snug all night long, which helped him sleep better. Another improvement to the product would be its shape. These rectangular blankets are harder to fold than square ones. While the size is just fine until the baby is small, it would be better if they were larger and square shaped.
My baby is 3 months old and doesn't fit in them now. Like others, I use them to spread it on carpet and leave my baby to play on it. Overall, Its an OK product but not too good.. 3 stars

I washed these blankets for the first time in cold water and they came out of the wash with a very toxic chemical smell, so bad that the entire inside of the washer smelled. I hung the blankets to dry and the whole room smelled of this chemical smell. We washed the blankets again in cold water..same smell. The blankets also looked like they had been used for several years, they did not hold up well in the wash. I assume we just received a bad batch, as we have purchased other Carters items and they have been wonderful. we wouldn't buy anything else but carters. I contacted carters customer service and I must say it was probably one of the best and easiest customer service experiences I have had in a while. Carters has top rated clothes and customer service, just didn't like these blankets.

I love, love, love these blankets. Here's why. The material is a soft flannel-like fabric that has friction and sort of stick together like those felt play sets for kids. I fold it lengthwise so I have a long strip, and wrap my baby in it like a burrito. This is how he has been sleeping since the day I came home from the hospital. He is now two months old. I use it nighttime and my baby sleeps much longer than he would otherwise because his hands and feet are snugly at his side. These are comfortable and warm, which is a great thing because I don't want to use a blanket to minimize the chances of SIDS. This keeps him totally warm at night, along with a Carter's sleeper, of course! These are a must if you want your baby to sleep comfortably and safely at night. I know people use this as a burping cloth or whatever, but I don't, so I can't vouch for such a use, but when used at night as a swaddler, these are A1.
