This study concerns relations between Carthage and Greece in the period from the expedition of Penthathlos of Cnidos to Sicily, until the battle of Himera (580-480 BC). Material can be found on the subject in many Greek sources, which are carefully examined here in their specific contexts. The texts are compared with the archaeological evidence available, and modern opinions are discussed from an historiographical point of view. This volume attempts to provides new insights, not only into the nature of the relations between Carthage and Greece, but on the Carthaginian presence in the western Mediterranean.
