Do the Ladies Run This Mutha...,
By
This review is from: Cartier Cartel (Paperback)
The Cartier Cartel, headed by Cartier Timmons, is an all girl crew out to make money. They started out boosting, but Cartier saw the bigger picture and greater potential in stepping up their game to drugs. If the boys can do it, why can't they? With drug dealing, however, came different risks. They traded in having to watch out for mall/store security to the dangers of other dealers. When a confrontation with a local dope boy, Donnie, goes terribly terribly wrong, will the Cartel remain standing?
This novel's initial pace is slow as the relationship of the girls is detailed. It's not until about the middle of the book that the plot picks up speed, which is unfortunate. From that point on, it was an enjoyable story and a very quick read. Like another reviewer mentioned, I'm not too hot on the idea of a sequel either. I would have preferred a complete story. 3.5

Hood Story,

This book was excellent from beginning to end. The part about the friends becoming lovers was unnecessary. This book also taught a lesson that I think everyone should be aware of. Sometimes we don't realize how much influence we have over people. We sometimes need to step back and take responsibility for playing a part in helping to lead people down the wrong path. So if you have people that look up to you. Rather friends or family, always try to go down the correct path, the path less chosen.

This book was very intense. I would have to say that Jason brought the most emotion out of me. To watch how he and Cartier's relationship evolved and to see her mature the way she did, under the circumstances, warmed my heart. When the last chapter was done, I ran out and got the next book because this book really put me on a reading high.

Chicks Making it Happen,

Great story about the street life and how friends will betray you. Cartier was born to a straight up gangster teenage mother who pretty much neglected her to fulfill herself. The only things that Cartier learned growing up were getting money and keeping it hood. Her loyalty was proven when she decided to serve time for a friend's crime and at the end sold herself to the devil by becoming involved with this same friend. This book started off slow but towards the end all the excitement started to happen. I read part 2 right after it which left off right where this one ended. Overall a great read and a nice contribution to urban literature.

Friends...{{How many of us have them}},
This review is from: Cartier Cartel (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow, keep your friends close & your enemies SUPER close. Cartier was truly a bad b*tch to do jail time for a crime she didn't commit. There is always never ending drama in the hood with these girls & all of their madness. These girls are truly a product of their society. How sad was it that Donnie beat down Bam like she was a dude but that's the lifestyle of hustling. When all is said & done it was truly messed up that Monya was sleeping with & got pregnant by Cartier's husband Jason twice. I was just as surprised that Cartier & Monya started sleeping together. I really enjoyed reading this book & can't wait to read part 2.

Cartier Cartel was the first book by author Nisa Santiago about a crew of girls coming up on the streets of brooklyn. Young teens, trying to do what the corner boys do, poses some serious problems with rival drug hustlers. As the leader of the crew, Cartier has to guide the cartel members and make decisions. When their whole team gets knocked by NYPD for a body, Cartier steps up and takes the weight. If she thought that the members would be grateful she had to think again. This book was soooooo good from page one and never stopped. I love this franchise and look forward to a trilogy. I hope that's in the works!
