Book Description

September 1, 2009
As the name implies, this book is a heartfelt love letter to a jewelry house without equal. Epitomizing luxury for over a century, Cartier’s devotees have included the global elite, as well as sirens of stage and screen. Originally a jeweler of kings, Cartier is often dubbed “the king of jewelers.” Renowned for its craftsmanship and exquisite materials, the marque is a byword for opulent innovation. Art directed and edited by Bruce Weber, this dazzling homage combines photographs created by Weber just for the book, original texts by Weber and Ingrid Sischy, along with a fascinating cornucopia of archival images and passages. The distinctively gold-bordered red cover is designed to look like a Cartier jewelry box—-right down to the authentic Cartier ribbon sewn into each binding!

What a spectacular book!! Bruce Weber is a magnificent photographer and of course, Cartier, a magnificent jeweler!! The photos and the uses of the model wearing the cartier treasures are breathtaking!! what a modern way to showcase the 100 year anniversary of this jeweler!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Ever Repetitive Bruce Weber, August 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cartier I Love You (Hardcover)
I thought this book would be an interesting concept. The cover alone is gorgeous. Bruce Weber doing a photo book on fine jewelry. Although the book starts off promising enough: Bruce shooting the jewelry on naked beefcake and cheesecake, the book unfortunately slowly but surely goes downhill. The problem with Bruce Weber is that he does nothing new. It is always pictures of naked men and pictures of his friends. Must we see more pictures of Cy Twombly, his dogs, the Clemente's? We have seen this done too many times. And yes, he does put in things that have absolutely nothing to do with Cartier. This book really is for the Bruce Weber fan. It leaves the Cartier fan confused, wanting more, and ultimately let down. I was a Bruce Weber fan in the early 80s when he was exciting and fresh. My adoration died in the 90s. Now it is just cheese to me. This book needed an ironfisted editor to protect the name of Cartier and put out something worthy of the name Cartier. I did order the Cartier in America / San Francisco Moma exhibit book at the same time. THAT was fabulous! Get that one instead!

3.0 out of 5 stars half-baked gem, May 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cartier I Love You (Hardcover)
I call it half-baked because it seems three books in one and none fulfill it's duty. First, I thought, a Cartier book of jewelry in models or settings that will have Mr. Weber's touch. Sorry! It started like that but doesn't delivers (a better example is Miss Vanessa Von Swetsinger book). Then, it seems that it will be a book of celebrities telling juicy gossip about their experiences buying or "borrowing" Cartier baubles. Sorry! Nothing new there. Then Mr. Weber adds his own version of what this book should be. Big Mistake! Its like Twiligth Zone meets Mr. Rogers. If you are like I, that collects jewelry books only consider this book if you have to have Everything Cartier has published (or you are a big fan of Mr. Weber). If not, save the bucks for another golden calf.
