Product Description

Amazon. com Product Description

Renowned worldwide for its high-quality French timepieces, Cartier proves once again it knows how to craft watches that even Poseidon would envy with its men's Pasha Seatimer Automatic watch. The sea-worthy timepiece is constructed with a stainless steel case, a round, unidirectional stainless steel bezel, and a stainless steel link bracelet with deployment-clasp for a secure fit. A durable scratch-resistant sapphire dial window protects the black dial face, which features silver-tone Arabic numeral hour indexes at three, six, nine, and 12 o'clock. The face also includes silver-tone rhodium-plated watch hands and a helpful date calendar between four and five o'clock. The timepiece is powered by Cartier's own Calibre 049 Swiss-automatic self-winding movement and is water resistant to 330 feet.

The Cartier Story

The name Cartier is synonymous with luxury, quality, and style. Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, the company became renowned worldwide for its design and production of beautiful jewelry and opulent objets d'art. A royal commission in 1904 made Cartier a supplier to Europe's Crowned Heads of State and led England's King Edward VII to describe Louis Cartier, grandson of the founder, as the jeweler of Kings, the King among jewellers.

By the early 20th century, Cartier had expanded its collection to include watches. At a time when pocket watches were still considered de rigueur for the distinguished gentleman, Cartier helped popularize the wristwatch, making it a bold fashion statement for men and women as well as a status symbol among the well-to-do. Louis Cartier is credited with creating the first men's wristwatch, the Santos, in 1904. He developed and named the watch for his client and friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who needed a device that would allow him to read the time without taking his hands off the controls of his airplane.

Other classic designs followed, including Cartier's signature timepiece--the Tank--which debuted in 1917 during the First World War and was inspired by the tough new war machine the Americans introduced to the fighting in Europe. Cartier's first water-resistant watch was named after the Pasha of Marrakesh, who requested that Cartier create watch that he could wear while in his swimming pool and not lose track of time.

And while it is known more for its luxurious design, Cartier is also credited with creating the highly functional deployment folding clasp in 1910, which is now used by watchmakers around the globe.

Modern Cartier watchmakers still base their watch designs on the early fundamentals developed by Louis Cartier. Treasured by collectors, Cartier watches are distinguished by their impressive variety of shapes (round, square, oval, Tank, Tortue and Tonneau), by their exceptional materials and workmanship, and by their recognizable Cartier aesthetic, an elegant blend of classic and modern design.

2.0 out of 5 stars I have my doubts., June 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cartier Men's W31077M7 Pasha Seatimer Automatic Stainless Steel Watch (Watch)
A couple of months after buying this watch from Amazon.com one of the hands inside the dial fell off (maybe I dropped it)

I took it into the local Cartier dealer to get fixed.. A couple of days later I got a call telling me that the technician had opened the watch and discovered that the screws were not "original Cartier" screws. I pressed them for more details but they would not provide anymore.

I was charged $150.00 for the repairs. I did not tell them I bought it on Amazon.com out of sheer embarrassment. But obviously this raises a ton of red flags as to why this watch bought NEW on amazon.com would have non original cartier screws? Is it a knock-off? Is it used? Was it bought new, ripped for parts, and then sent back by another customer? I don't know.

Also, I find the bezel to spin a bit too freely compared to other Cartiers of the same model.. but this might just be me.

So much time had elapsed when I bought it off Amazon.com that I could not even return it.

Purchase at your own risk.

NOTE: I bought this item on April 2009. It was sold and shipped by Amazon.com itself:

5.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, better price!, August 14, 2009

This is my second Cartier watch. I also own the Roadster, which is nice and sporty. When adding to my collection, I wanted something rounder and dressier, something that would stand out. I made a great choice with the Pasha Seatimer. As the previous review states, it is a heavy watch, but a great size. The combination of the brushed steel sides and band compliment the polished bezel quite nicely. I also went to the Cartier mansion on Fifth Avenue here in NYC to get it sized and they were astounded at how little I had paid for it. Of course, the service was top notch. They even polished my older Roadster at no charge. You can't go wrong with the Seatimer or Cartier.
