Although I have never personally watched an episode of "Adventure Time", there was always something weirdly fascinating about the art style. Perhaps it's the kid with that... thing... on his head. Every time I see it, I feel the classic Steve Martin and John Belushi SNL skit coming on: "What IS that?!"

Network Access + Receive Information (e.g. Google Cloud Messaging): I can't see exactly how this was exactly implemented in the game. There is the typical More Games link, but beyond that there currently seems to be no further disruptive pushes. It may be just standard coded permissions for ALL of Cartoon Network's games. There is a static "Watch C&N" ad that shows up at the bottom of the level selection screen, but it's non-clickable- nor would I call it a popup as it's not a separate window but a integrated part of the Level Selection screen. A Rate Us link is unobtrusively tucked away under the More (settings) button on the main menu.

Bit of a battery hog, and 85mbs in downloaded unpacked size. Fortunately, you can move it manually to a SD card. The back-key does exit cleanly.

The game itself is a cute scrolling platformer, offering two types of control; the D-pad style actually feels less responsive than the screen swipe option. The first level tutorial is fairly extensive with the movement having variety: double jumps, wall jumps, hover drifting, and horizontal/downward dash-smash. Fans of the series will enjoy the unfolding "Adventure Time" comic book. The sword creation is fairly limited- it's the item collection and the sword creation timer that gives the "once was an IAP" feel, but no IAP options are present. The soundtrack is rather catchy, and the graphics in the typical series style (from what I could discern from passing CN commercials).

All in all, nothing outstanding in terms of 2D platforming itself with somewhat clunky controls, but for the Adventure Time cartoon fans, ROCK BANDITS may very well be a must-have for fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars An OK game that is harder than it looks to play! June 2, 2014

The game starts with a cartoon story about what the storyline is based on. The cartoon graphics are cute and the music is fine but you probably will turn it down. The controls are simple to use and they are finger swipes used to jump, move forward, and bash an object, double jump, wall climb, sword fight, jump down or float. There is also a new circle control you can use but for me the finger swipe worked better. When I tried the circle controls I could not do the same things I was able to do with the finger swipes. The little tutorial was easy but the actual game is much harder and it is easy to die. You get three lives in the game and I didn't last long. You soon realize that the tutorial level was so easy as to make you believe the game was going to be easy and it is not.

This is a good beginner run to the left and fight jump and run game but the levels are tough to beat for me. It is OK to play but when I got into the real game I found the controls a little slow for the amount of action that came at me at times. I didn't notice it so much in the tutorial level as it was so easy. There are pop up ads to watch Adventure Time on the Cartoon Network.

If you leave a level without finishing then the progress in the level will be lost. I had to hit the return button to exit the game. Overall I rate the game 3.5 stars. I'll round it to 4 stars but it is much harder than it looks.

The Menu button leads to instructions, settings, more Cartoon Network and asks you to rate the game. The More button leads you to the Amazon App store to allow the purchase of free apps and apps that cost money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad gameplay/controls implementation. No challenge. August 25, 2014

Controls are very touchy... get it? Aw, whatever, that was funny to me. Anyway, yes, the controls are annoying. The gameplay is a little on the slow side with very little challenge, but the controls make simple tasks harder than they should be and hard tasks easier than they should be. It just feels too automated when fighting something, and the control scheme would be OK if not for the simple fact that the game doesn't always listen to what I'm gesturing for. I think the game wants me to touch the character and then drag away from him to do actions, but the tutorial messages do not say this, so I'm not sure. In any case, the controls need work.

The animation quality is poor. The framerate is low, and it's not due to performance issues. I did not appreciate the low quality animations because the characters are so simple! If it was more detailed, I might not mind so much, because I could understand the amount of work involved. However, Finn is a simple drawing and should have very smooth animations... I'm not seeing that here!

The rather simple story is told in a poorly designed page-sliding fashion. This mechanic could have been nice, but instead, the controls are again fudged up... and I don't like fudge! Okay, fudge is good on rare occasion. Anyway, the comic-like story scenes are very lazily put together. You can't even go backward, and when you try, it forces you to go forward another panel. The text is not anti-aliased, so it looks very pixelated and just isn't the most pleasant font to read. The story isn't bad - for a children's cartoon - but Adventure Time has a lot more, better stories to offer, and this isn't really going to win any awards.
