Product Description

What time is it? TIME TO ROCK! Help Finn and Jake rescue Marceline’s stolen fans in Rock Bandits!

The Ice King and his band couldn’t get any fans of their own, so they kidnapped Marceline’s audience instead. Follow their tour across the Land of Ooo. Battle your way through the Dark Forest, Lumpy Space, Bad Lands, and the Ice Kingdom.

Use Finn’s sword and Jake’s stretchy powers to slash, smash, and bash the bad guys in this action-packed side-scrolling platformer. Punch some respect into Ice King and his band of evil. Battle Tree Witch’s nasty nose, beat up Ash and his monster amp, and put the squeeze on the Lemongrabs!

One man’s junk is another man’s broadsword! Collect random junk for the Blind Blacksmith and he’ll forge it into new blades and hilts.

Rock Bandits includes an original comic by Adventure Time comic series writer Ryan North and artist Shelli Paroline!

Crank the adventure up to 11 with ROCK BANDITS!

Although I have never personally watched an episode of "Adventure Time", there was always something weirdly fascinating about the art style. Perhaps it's the kid with that... thing... on his head. Every time I see it, I feel the classic Steve Martin and John Belushi SNL skit coming on: "What IS that?!"

Network Access + Receive Information (e.g. Google Cloud Messaging): I can't see exactly how this was exactly implemented in the game. There is the typical More Games link, but beyond that there currently seems to be no further disruptive pushes. It may be just standard coded permissions for ALL of Cartoon Network's games. There is a static "Watch C&N" ad that shows up at the bottom of the level selection screen, but it's non-clickable- nor would I call it a popup as it's not a separate window but a integrated part of the Level Selection screen. A Rate Us link is unobtrusively tucked away under the More (settings) button on the main menu.

Bit of a battery hog, and 85mbs in downloaded unpacked size. Fortunately, you can move it manually to a SD card. The back-key does exit cleanly.

The game itself is a cute scrolling platformer, offering two types of control; the D-pad style actually feels less responsive than the screen swipe option. The first level tutorial is fairly extensive with the movement having variety: double jumps, wall jumps, hover drifting, and horizontal/downward dash-smash. Fans of the series will enjoy the unfolding "Adventure Time" comic book. The sword creation is fairly limited- it's the item collection and the sword creation timer that gives the "once was an IAP" feel, but no IAP options are present. The soundtrack is rather catchy, and the graphics in the typical series style (from what I could discern from passing CN commercials).

All in all, nothing outstanding in terms of 2D platforming itself with somewhat clunky controls, but for the Adventure Time cartoon fans, ROCK BANDITS may very well be a must-have for fans.

Its a licensed adventure time game with weak gameplay that isn't all that great. If your a super fan get it, other wise pass.

2.0 out of 5 stars Had High Expectations; Controls Need Work June 5, 2014

The game itself has high potential to be fairly enjoyable, but only if you have a bit of forgiveness in you. The swipe controls are decent, but it's very easy to have one control mistaken for another, making *fluid and enjoyable* gameplay pretty brutal. At one point, the in-game tutorial asks if you'd like to try the new circle pad controls, and after switching over, there's no obvious way to change back. Hitting the Android back button doesn't take you to any menu of any sort, so you're stuck trying to play with circle controls that were not explained to you. At this point I stopped playing. I had fairly high hopes for it, but just couldn't force myself to play past the subpar control schemes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy game but terrible controls September 23, 2014

I installed this game for my nephew who loved it. He knew exactly what he wanted to do but the controls are so bad that he can't do what he want. This game is made hard by how bad the controls are. At the end he watched over my shoulder as I finished the game for him so he can watch the story. The game looks great and they used Finn very creatively.
I wish there was a reward for getting all the swords and hidden character like a bit more story. Also it would have been great if each sword had a special ability or animation beside the different color of swipe.

It's not amazing, but it's also not bad. At $1 you can't really complain.
