Rock Bandits includes an original comic by Adventure Time comic series writer Ryan North and artist Shelli Paroline!

Although I have never personally watched an episode of "Adventure Time", there was always something weirdly fascinating about the art style. Perhaps it's the kid with that... thing... on his head. Every time I see it, I feel the classic Steve Martin and John Belushi SNL skit coming on: "What IS that?!"

Network Access + Receive Information (e.g. Google Cloud Messaging): I can't see exactly how this was exactly implemented in the game (see above *note*). There is the typical More Games link, but beyond that there currently seems to be no further disruptive pushes. It may be just standard coded permissions for ALL of Cartoon Network's games. There is a static "Watch C&N" ad that shows up at the bottom of the level selection screen, but it's non-clickable- nor would I call it a popup as it's not a separate window but a integrated part of the Level Selection screen. A Rate Us link is unobtrusively tucked away under the More (settings) button on the main menu.

Bit of a battery hog, and 85mbs in downloaded unpacked size. Fortunately, you can move it manually to a SD card. The back-key does exit cleanly.

The game itself is a cute scrolling platformer, offering two types of control; the D-pad style actually feels less responsive than the screen swipe option. The first level tutorial is fairly extensive with the movement having variety: double jumps, wall jumps, hover drifting, and horizontal/downward dash-smash. Fans of the series will enjoy the unfolding "Adventure Time" comic book. The sword creation is fairly limited- it's the item collection and the sword creation timer that gives the "once was an IAP" feel, but no IAP options are present.

Fun adventure, side-scrolling game. It's hard to figure out at first, but you get used to it. You have the option to either swipe and tap Finn for controls or have a little joysticky circle on the bottom left (good for bigger screens). You attack enemies by swiping them (like that Fruity Ninja gamey thingy). You can also have Jake punch by swiping forward (while running) or have him stomp while swiping down (in air). But here's the thing, it's really hard to master these controls. If it were easier to maneuver my Finn around, I would have given it 5 stars. Still a fun game. You have to rescue a character each level, and a bonus character to find and rescue each level. The only upgrade is the sword you use, which is more for aesthetics and achievement than it is for functionality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Adventure Time game. June 5, 2014
Verified Purchase
I liked the first Adventure Time game I played and the graphics are on par in this game. Like other reviewers stated the controls are laggy (IMO having to touch Fin is counterproductive to game play since he's on the other side of the screen) and the circle pad is awkwardly placed (this should be adjustable).

The game is well designed and I will playboy not often until the controls are more fluid. But hey, it was a FAOTD. :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars its so so June 10, 2014

I downloaded this game because it was free and adventure time so I thought "why not." I think it is what bit slow of a game, not loading just the overall game. I would recommend it for a kid around the age of 8. It is overall a good game.

4.0 out of 5 stars An OK game that is harder than it looks to play! June 2, 2014
Verified Purchase
The game starts with a cartoon story about what the storyline is based on. The cartoon graphics are cute and the music is fine but you probably will turn it down. The controls are simple to use and they are finger swipes used to jump, move forward, and bash an object, double jump, wall climb, sword fight, jump down or float. There is also a new circle control you can use but for me the finger swipe worked better. When I tried the circle controls I could not do the same things I was able to do with the finger swipes. The little tutorial was easy but the actual game is much harder and it is easy to die. You get three lives in the game and I didn't last long. You soon realize that the tutorial level was so easy as to make you believe the game was going to be easy and it is not.

This is a good beginner run to the left and fight jump and run game but the levels are tough to beat for me. It is OK to play but when I got into the real game I found the controls a little slow for the amount of action that came at me at times. I didn't notice it so much in the tutorial level as it was so easy. There are pop up ads to watch Adventure Time on the Cartoon Network.

If you leave a level without finishing then the progress in the level will be lost. I had to hit the return button to exit the game. Overall I rate the game 3.5 stars. I'll round it to 4 stars but it is much harder than it looks.

The Menu button leads to instructions, settings, more Cartoon Network and asks you to rate the game. The More button leads you to the Amazon App store to allow the purchase of free apps and apps that cost money.

It's not amazing, but it's also not bad. At $1 you can't really complain.

3.0 out of 5 stars might be great for those that like the show
Great design, but I just didn't enjoy the game. Hardcore fans of the show may like it a lot, but I don't like the show either. I got it as a FAOTD, so I can't complain too much.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like Adventure Time, you will probably like this!
Daughter liked this one. She played it a fair amount of time. I love Adventure Time and thought it looked like fun if you like games of this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars It was free.
When I first saw this game. It was previously free. But in the outcome it has gained a price. I find this pretty ridiculous.
