Product Description

Cartoon Network: Secret Saturdays: Volume One

An animated adventure series featuring super heroes, powerful monsters, and a fascination with far-out science, The Secret Saturdays is a captivating Cartoon Network series aimed at kids ages 7 and older. Far from your average family, Doc and Drew Saturday are a husband and wife scientist team with some very special powers who are dedicated to studying the mysteries of the universe and protecting the world's most legendary creatures and valuable artifacts. Their long-standing nemesis is the evil V. V. Argost. Recently, the Saturday's 11-year old son Zak has begun to develop his power to control special animals known as cryptids and has joined the family team along with Fiskerton, Zak's 7-foot gorilla cat brother, and Komodo, a disappearing Komodo dragon. The Secret Saturdays, Volume 1 begins with the two-part "The Kur Stone" in which Zak is learning to control his powers over the cryptids under the tutelage of his parents when Argost steals two of three pieces of the valuable Kur Stone--a stone which, when possessed in its entirety, endows the bearer with limitless power and the potential to control the world. Zak's parents hesitantly admit that Zak's powers may be crucial in saving the Kur stone, so the family heads off to the Amazon jungle to protect the final piece. A special weapon called the claw helps Zak gain focus and wield his powers more effectively and, in the heat of the battle, Zak learns an important lesson about balance while struggling to make an impossible choice. In "The Vengeance of Hibagon," brain transference technology has fallen in the hands of evil in Hiroshima, Japan and it's up to the Kur-stone-obsessed Doc and the rest of the Saturday family to save an important scientist and ensure the safety of the world. "The Ice Caverns of Ellef Ringnes" find the Saturday family in the frozen world of Anchor Island, New Zealand where treasure hunters have disturbed ancient burial mounds and unleashed the fury of fierce cryptid monsters. Can Zak set things right or will his irresponsible behavior only make things worse? "Guess Who's Going to be Dinner?" opens with Zak complaining that he's too old for a babysitter and his parents heading out to celebrate their anniversary. Zak manages to get rid of his unwanted, UFO-obsessed babysitter just as the Frankenstein-like monster Piecemeal shows up with an appetite for the rare gorilla-cat Fiskerton. Can Zak, Fiskerton, and Komodo defeat Piecemeal by themselves--even when the power is knocked out? Everyday family conflicts mix with action, intrigue, and monsters in each exciting episode of The Secret Saturdays. --Tami Horiuchi

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing "The Secret Saturdays" DVD! August 7, 2009
By Dbzgirl
I've been a huge fan of "The Secret Saturdays" ever since I saw it premiere last year on October 3rd, 2008! The basic plot of the show is that, the Secret Saturdays (Zak, Doc, and Drew, along with their cryptid pets, Fiskerton (a Fiskerton Phantom, a seven foot tall gorilla-cat), Komodo (a genetically modified Komodo Dragon that can turn invisible and that has a huge appetite), and Zon (a Pterosaur-like living dinosaur that they rescue in the second half of the pilot episode, that is the only female cryptid pet of theirs, and carries Zak through the air in some later episodes), are Secret Scientists that help protect cryptids (the mythological animals studied in cryptozoology that are, so far, undiscovered in science, such as Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, etc.) from being revealed to the public/media and from being harmed by villains, such as, V.V. Argost, my favorite character/villain in the series, his assistant/servant, Munya (who can transform into a half-human, half-giant spider monster), and many other villains. The main storyline is that, the Secret Saturdays, along with a bunch of other Secret Scientists, find an artifact called the Kur Stone, eleven years before the events of the pilot episode, which is supposed to release Kur, the most powerful cryptid, which will give the person that follows the clues on the Kur Stone and releases Kur, a huge, invincible, insanely powerful cryptid army, which would allow the person to become insanely powerful and rule the world, so in pretty much every episode, the Secret Saturdays have to fight against V.V. Argost and Munya, because Argost wants to unleash Kur and rule the world. Read more ›

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Show Bad Value For Volume 1 April 27, 2009
I happen to like this show a lot. However doing the math, 22min per episode x 5 episodes = 110 min. This volume is over priced. 5 episodes is too few for 13.49. I hope this series will eventually air in Season Box Sets. Until then, I would suggest recording the series as it airs old and new episodes on TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series April 21, 2014

Secret Saturdays is a brilliant, well written animated series that ended way too early. Fiskerton is my favorite. I like the story line with the creepy T.V. show host as the bad guy - and there are a lot of plot twists that make it "more than a kids' cartoon." As for the vendor- I'm not sure what I'm reviewing here - my item arrive in perfect condition and in timely manner - it was great. But, back to the Secret Saturday - I miss it - and now I can watch the dvd to my heart's content.
