Yet another spy program seeking private and personal information that is completely unnecessary for its advertised operation. Why is the author seeking:
"Access fine (e.g., GPS) location
Access the list of accounts in the Accounts Service
Allows an application to receive messages via Google Cloud Messaging"

Why does a Cartoon Network Superstar Soccer App need to know your GPS location or what other accounts you have?

And yes requiring this private information in a normally paid for app is spying, as this private information has nothing to do with playing or the general operation of a Superstar Soccer App. (Requiring this information in a child's game is definitely a NO-NO.)

Spyware is spyware and does not belong in a game/app that the seller is charging the end user a fee to own. I can somewhat understand greedy programmers putting spyware in free games, but once you start charging a fee for a game/app, all spyware should be removed. Ratings will suffer for those greedy programmers who insist on putting spyware in paid games/apps. Fair warning!!!

My heart fell and my eyes bugged out when I glanced through the permissions for this game.

Fine GPS? What, to track the digital ball when I kick it out of bounds? I could guess it is somehow used for the Multiplayer function, which purports to link remote players... but

a) I have GPS manually blocked, and I played a Multiplayer match just fine (and won, thank you), and

b) I shouldn't have to guess why there is a Fine GPS permission in a paid game. Especially a game by such a large entity as Cartoon Network, who apparently takes Privacy serious enough to have two separate in-game links to their policy. However, nothing in those policies directly deal with Fine GPS Tracking. This would be the THIRD game I have read CN's policy. Starting to really get to know it.

And then there is the Account Access permission, potentially pulling email address and your device's linked accounts. I accept this in certain Managment apps without batting an eye... but in a paid app, combined with the following code modules:

Playhaven Social Networking
Android Cloud to Device Messaging
Comscore Analytics

This all spells out some serious marketing information. What happened to the days of yore when I could just play a game without being automatically mined for advertising? Gosh, I miss the old Registration Card I used to get in a game box. Or later as technology developed, if I wanted mailers and such, I could manually sign up via email. Today, just open up a new paid game for the first time, and I get Fine GPS, Account Access, and Device Messaging with Analytics dug into the center.

-- The Video Review (also available on my YouTube channel for those unable to play Amazon videos) takes a look at the actual game mechanics first, then summarizes again the privacy issues inherent to the game.

This wants to know where your children are - within a few feet. It then encourages them to post to social media. It has PUSH, meaning Cartoon Network gets to send you messages whether you like it or not. And let's not forget to mention it wants to get a list of your accounts.

Really, Cartoon Network? Is business bad enough that you have to spy on kids, push your ads on us even though this is a PAID app? Why do you want to know where we are within THIRTY FEET?

The Privacy Policy is also unsettling. If you don't want to be probed and tracked, your only remedy is to uninstall the game. No refund.

There is a four-sentence set of instructions on how to use the A & B buttons. There are NO INSTRUCTIONS or TUTORIALS beyond this. For example, it might have been nice to mention the thumb controller that's nearly invisible on the lower left of the screen.

The players are difficult to know who's on which team. The marshmallow 'pig' ones are lighter on your team, apparently, but the cartoon characters a mostly a mystery of who is on who's team unless you switch to one. So what ends up happening is you run around randomly pressing A & B, and getting beat badly. Would it have killed the developer to make the teams more obvious?

I don't remember uninstalling a game more quickly.

BOTTOM LINE: Just don't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars boo July 9, 2014

I'm just not excited about this one. FAOTD or not, I'm removing it. Along with the issues of GPS, access to my life, spyware, etc, it's not protected from anything if kids get a hold of it. There are a few links to other games for their downloading leisure, and absolutely no security. Thanks for that! I love an app with no added security :| I have my own parental locks on my devices, sure. But it would be nice to know that someone else cared about more than making a quick buck off some kids who like to push every button on the screen.

If you can get past the fact that this game is going through your phone and being creepy with your info, you will find that the game play is pretty bad. They should have made it clearer who is on whose team.

Spyware. Pretty straight forward, advanced data collection in a terrible game marketed at children.
