Customer Reviews

On my first use the threaded portion that attaches to the cartridge snapped.
EJK
It took less than 5 minutes to replace the cartridge despite the excessive sediments due to hard water, so I am very satisfied.
SU
The device was able to pull most of the cartridge out, but not all the way out, which is fine with me.

While the tool appears to be made of a glass-filled polymer, it is plenty rugged. I had used the other cartridge puller (which comes up when you search for Moen cartridge puller) without success. Even though the other puller is aluminum it will misalign itself before the cartridge is out. This tool will not do that - it stays straight and will extract the old cartridge much farther.

You will still have to use pliers to pull the remaining cartridge out - I used some adjustable slip-jaw ones. Grip the cartridge and wiggle/twist and tug. After a bit it will pop out. This tool will do the best job of pulling the cartridge as far out as it can - much better than the other version. I highly recommend it.

First I tried Moen provided plastic removal tool. It worked on two of my cartridges, but would not budge on other two.

Then, I bought the more expensive aluminum Moen cartridge puller from Home Depot. However it would not pull out the cartridge and only ended up bending the copper ends of my stuck cartridge, which would not let me to reinsert the stopper clip properly.

Then I got this tool. This worked right from the start. Screw it onto the end of the stem, and slowly turn the wing-nut. I used ¼ turn steps, stopping and easing off after each one. After a few turns, I felt a `click' and the cartridge was loose enough to turn it with Moen provided plastic tool, and to pull it out with pliers.

The only thing I could suggest if the tool had a metallic edge. Since it is made of plastic, my second stuck cartridge edge was cutting into it, shaving it like a lathe. I ended up taking the tool apart and using a ¾" socket instead of the tool's body, which did the job.

Al in all without this tool I would have had to call a plumber, and this way I replaced 4 cartridges in about 1 hr.

This tool is surprisingly strong, but, I had used the all metal tool before and here is what I found.
This tool is cheaper but did not pull the cartridge out all the way, so I had to pull like crazy on the last inch. Maybe it was because the rubber seals on the Moen cartridge jammed in the valve, but this happened all 3 times I used it. The all metal chrome puller seems to pull the cartridge further, and was easier to use on valve #4 that I did. Just my opinion.

I was nervous that the tool has a plastic body. I was able to use it successfully in the repair of a shower valve and the tool did not break.
The big complaint is that the tool was not able to pull the cartridge out far enough to break free without me using a wrench as an impromptu shim between the tool and the valve body. At least one other review found this to be the case and I had the same issue.

However... considering the price, even with the shipping charge, was less than the Moen metal tool - and that I don't anticipate using it in the near future - I will recommend this for any other homeowner needing to do the occasional repair.

Very good quality. it was the least expensive puller, but since im only using once a year Ithought I'd give it a try. Very pleasantly suprised.

Works well with a 1222 Moen Posi-temp cartridge. The device was able to pull most of the cartridge out, but not all the way out, which is fine with me. Came with an additional part to buffer the device and the cartridge itself.

Recommend the product.

On my first use the threaded portion that attaches to the cartridge snapped. Couldn't drill it out so I hired a plumber to break the cartridge out and replace it. I done this removal before without a puller. Do not recommend.
