5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE my Caruso rollers
I did a lot of research before I bought the Caruso set. I am very glad I did. Together, with the ones that came with my set and the ones I bought afterwards, I have 12 medium, 18 small, 12 jumbo, and 6 petite.

3.0 out of 5 stars steam rollers
I like the Caruso steam hair setter but wish the rollers would last longer or could just replace the foam around the rollers without having to buy the whole roller. the price for the rollers is expensive since they don't last long.

I did a lot of research before I bought the Caruso set. I am very glad I did. Together, with the ones that came with my set and the ones I bought afterwards, I have 12 medium, 18 small, 12 jumbo, and 6 petite.

I have a lot of flexibility - I can roll the jumbo/medium for a quick hairstyle before a night out. I spend the time doing medium, small, and petite for a big day or for Sunday.

A couple of tips if you're hair is super straight like mine:

Put a little mousse/gel in your hair in the middle of blow-drying. Gel will keep the hold better than mousse.

Be sure your hair is bone dry before starting.

While the set is heating up, "set up" the rest. Separate your rollers and clips on the counter before you start doing your hair (stand them up), and use hair clips to separate your hair into chunks. I do three chunks: top crown, mid section, and below/behind the ears.

Use the bigger curlers closer to the back/bottom and the smaller ones closer to the front/top.

If your roller isn't going to be flat once it's on your head, be sure roll it with the steam hole facing DOWN.

Set the roller on the steamer for a 7-9 seconds. Go by look; once the top of the roller barely starts to form steam beads, take it off and roll it. Then set the clip on the steamer for about a second before clipping it. Especially if your hair has no natural curl, you can't let the roller or clip get any more wet, or the wetness will make it so the curl can't set.

Leave the curlers in as long as you can. If you don't have the time, that's OK, but if you have time to leave them in for 30-45 minutes, you'll be glad you did.

Separate the curls with a comb just a little bit - too much combing will make a frizz ball. If it seems too curly, don't panic; it will relax over the next 30 minutes.

Remember to use hair spray when you're done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful soft curls!, November 1, 2004
The Caruso hairsetter works so well that my hair really grabs on to the curl. I have thick hair so some of smaller sized rollers give me too-tight curls and make my hair too puffy. My hair is a few inches below my shoulders and the jumbo sized rollers give me nice soft curls.

These rollers are quite large so if you want to add a bit of volume to short hair or soft curls for longer hair, they are the perfect size!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great - but ditto on the sponge dilemma..., December 23, 2008
By
I, too, have had the Caruso steam roller system since it rolled around the first time back in the early 90's, and it's been wonderful. Beautiful, soft long-lasting curls every time. I agree however, with the sponge-versus-whole roller problem, but I improvised a bit:
I bought a bunch of inexpensive, pink foam rollers and removed the plastic spines from each. Then, I disassembled my Caruso rollers and replaced the original, worn-out foams with these new foams. They worked like a charm, and although they don't last quite as long as the Caruso foams do, they do last quite a while and are cheap enough to replace as often as needed. Just thought I'd share that tip.

4.0 out of 5 stars Replacing Foam Only, September 25, 2007
By
Several posts mention neeing only replacement foam - not the whole curler. My set came with an accessory order card - it lists 4 sizes of replacement foams @ 70 cents each plus $6.50 shipping the whole order - this is an older set so prices may vary - try 800-942-2080 or write to Caruso at P O Box 151, Jenkintown, PA 19046

I have been using the Caruso rollers for years and would not use any other method of curling my hair! I highly recommend this method for soft curls and the steam keeps your hair from drying out with conventional heat setters...

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite curlers!, May 13, 2007
I had a caruso for about five years, using it almost every day. I have tried so many other products over the years and I was so happy to find it again. By the time I get the last curler in, the curls are starting to set. I leave the curlers in until I'm done with my makeup and the curl is GREAT. The steam setting can get "wet" if you put too much water in, so only fill it to the ine. I use the Ion setting for great hold.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great product!, March 13, 2007
I have used the molecular hair setter for years and finally needed new rollers when the old ones fell apart. That is not a criticism - they lasted for years and years. I could not do without the rollers. They set the hair fast, the steam locks the curl in, and I can go from BAD HAIR to really pretty hair in about 20 minutes - 15 if I hurry. I live in a very dry climate, so the static in my hair just gets worse if I use a curling iron. But the steam in the hair setter, which goes into the curlers, settles everything down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, May 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have used these for over 8 years now, and I can't recomend them any more highly!
They are very gentile on the hair, and even improve the texture, softening, and adding lots of body, bounce, and curl. The curls last a long time, even up to three days on my wife, with some light hairspray.
I will usually roll her hair with some type of light setting spray, or moose applied just before each curl is rolled, then leave them in until cool. Gently remove, allowing the curls to rest and become completely cool, then just brush or comb into style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent curlers!, November 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Although, I have not received my product yet, I have been using Caruso rollers since the early 90's! I love this hair system! The rollers have never damaged my hair and the curls stay in my hair all day long and into the next day! If you are looking for a really great/healthy way to curl your hair (in many different styles) buy the different size rollers and experiment! The rollers last for 5-10 years before needing to replace the soft part of the roller. I have NEVER switched after finding Caruso!
