Several people had mentioned this book in the Woodcarving Illustrated message boards under the subject of study sticks. They were absolutely correct. The sequence of carving study sticks for particular facial features is by far the most valuable feature of this book. Beginning or intermediate carvers will find the process of carving the study sticks a fabulous way to practice facial features. I'm working on a second iteration of the "eyes" stick, and I already have a much better appreciation and understanding of eye structure in a carving. ** Okay, if you are interested in carving heads from basswood eggs, that part is very detailed as well.
