Fantastic book of modern architecture in Brazil, many houses are featured for the first time. All are gems of mid century modern architecture. Incredible! Beautiful photography too. Must have book for anyone interested in modern architecture.

This is a beautiful book, with hundreds of color photographs. It also includes a brief but well-written introduction to modernist architecture in Brazil that is both easy to read and academic. The author does not assume that the reader has a background in either architecture or Brazilian history, but this is not the fluffy text of a standard coffee-table book. He describes the historical and social context that allowed the style to flourish and relates the modernist homes to their vernacular counterparts. The bulk of the book is devoted to the homes themselves, organized chronologically. Each home gets several pages of pictures, with a brief overview of the style and materials and helpful captions.

This is an excellent overview of modernist homes in Brazil, enjoyable as a beautiful coffee-table book and also informative. Recommended for architecture and design libraries and enthusiasts.

Some really fantastic houses in this book!

I was already familiar with Oscar Niemeyer, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Marcio Kogan and Issay Weinfeld but this book presents lots of astounding homes across the decades by architects who are new to me.

I would like to have seen some plans/sections in this book as some of the homes are tricky to decipher from the photos alone. However I assume that tracking down the plans from the various architects would have delayed the book for years! Plus many plans would likely need to be drawn from scratch.

Overall a very good book with some great houses.

O livro revela cuidadoso trabalho de pesquisa sobre as casas modernas brasileiras remontando aos anos 1920. As fotos, por si só descritivas, são de grande beleza. Pena não haver edição em português.
