es un libro intenso, en el que se siente la fuerza narrativa de vargas llosa. en realidad a veces crees estar en esa selva donde pasan semanas y llueve a cantaros. muy recomendado, es vargas llosa en uno de sus mejores momentos.Luis Mendez

Great literature, but hard going as he uses a lot of Quechua words that are not in my 500-page Spanish Dictionary.

Even though Vargas Llosa is one of my favorite writers, I have negative comments about this book. It is very difficult reading, I could not finish it, it was kind of boring. The story wonders for too long...definitely not one of my favorite books.

Uno de los grandes trabajos de Vargas Llosa,

This review is from: La casa verde / The Green House (Biblioteca Del Bolsillo / Pocket Library) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Este es uno de los mejores trabajos de Vargas Llosa, hay sentimiento, intriga, historias que se entrecruzan y sobre todo una captura perfecta de ciertas características latinoiamericanas que nos hacen tan universales.

peruvian issues arising,
This review is from: La casa verde/ The Green House (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
This work, the author's second major novel, is an intimate and nuanced exploration of the relationship between Peruvian "cristianos" and the native Amazonian peoples of the country, including the impact of Catholicism, the trade in rubber and other commodities, and the pervasive sexism and male dominance characteristic of the culture. I read it in Spanish and was at first daunted and then fascinated by the author's striking mixed style, which repeatedly shifts from standard descriptive prose and dialogue to stream of consciousness to a peculiar and in my experience unique kind of free-form rapid alternation in time and place, sometimes repeatedly within a single paragraph. His vocabulary is rich and allusive. There were many times when a sentence with numerous unfamiliar words nonetheless conveyed a clear meaning, whether humorous, dramatic, or tragic, and which could be read aloud for the sheer pleasure of pronouncing and listening to the music of the language. Although this work does not have the same dramatic plot climax as in "La Ciudad y Los Perros", it nonetheless contains many surprises. Well worth reading, either in the original if you have the inclination, or in translation.

Indudablemente uno de los libros mas importantes de Vargas Llosa. La linea narrativa es inteligente; los recursos del tiempo una y otra vez sorprenden al lector. En fin, una obra clasica de la nueva literatura latinoamericana.
