We bought this at the end of April 2010. It hasn't even survived a year. It was never quiet background noise on any setting, died a slow death of quirky clunks, pings and pops, refused to oscillate it's full path without parts rubbing at each end of the path, and the plastic oscillation control came off in hand this week. Last night it finally just stopped working, slowly stopping completely while still on.

Casablanca used to have a well deserved reputation as the best fan, and the very expensive ceiling fan that is still functioning perfectly in our former sunroom after 20 years is mostly the reason I was willing to pay so much for this desk fan. I'll be side eyeing them for a long time. Trust that you can pick up a comparably noisy, but longer lived fan for a tenth of this price here at Amazon or at any local store.

They are now made in China and the quality shows. Mine made noise when is oscillated but the factory tech told me how to overcome that problem. The fan would not go into the high speed mode due to a bad capacitor which the tech said was a common problem. As a side note I was told that if you use the fan in the oscillating mode frequently it will fail due to the use of aluminum wiring that is not quite the proper gauge. Even with these flaws it is still the best fan available. It is fairly quiet, doesn't rattle, and puts out a tremendous air flow.

Home Office - new floor, paint, HON commercial office furniture, flat screen TV, computer, ceiling fan - know what was missing? This little fan! It fits perfect on edge of the desk and is used to blow hot air out of this new room. Looks great. Feels great. Runs great. Just a really cool little fan! Expensive, but if you're looking for that certain "look" this could be the fan for you. Gb
