This filter is so easy... and so fast!
Zee
While I won't be using it until my 13 day summer backpack trip, I have every confidence it will work fine.

Some things to keep in mind is that you may need to burp air out of the filter or it will run very slowly.

I have the whole set up but after several hundred gallons of dirty water and daily use the filter slows down. Which in away lets you know its working. It turns brown water to clear and drinkable. I had one filter slow to a crawl so I got two more for filtering water here in Tanzania.

Used this on a recent AT section hike with my own gravity system made from some old tubing and a homemade water bag. Probably the best water filer I have ever used. No clogging, its light (water drains completly out), and its small.

This filter is so easy... and so fast! Pumping water through a filter pump was always a pain. I changed to inline gravity filters a few years ago, and they were easy but very slow (as in drip-drip-drip). This filter solved that problem. It flows very fast, filters well, is very easy to backflush/clean, and can fill my hydration bladder without even taking it out of my pack! I have always like MSR/Platypus products, but this one is the best they have come up with. It makes water filtration so easy, that I was not afraid to use lots of water for cleanup and cooking, as it was easy to filter more.
I do recommend you buy the 'Dirty' reservoir and hose kit (or the complete setup) your first time, so you get the full benefit of this filter. If you already have a drip-bag system, this filter could easily replace your current filter in that system.

If you already have a hydration pouch, you don't need the over $100 system. I purchased just the filter and it hooks up to my hydration hose perfectly. I took and old bag and hose with a non-replaceable leaking mouthpiece and cut off the mouthpiece and cut the hose in half. I then inserted this in between the two pieces of hose. It fit perfectly without any leaks. The only thing I'm missing vs the $110 "system" is a nice on/off clamp for the outlet and a handle to easily hang up the dirty bag. I just use a piece of 2.4 mm rope.

Once you have a dirty bag with the filter on the outlet you are ready to rock and roll. You can hook up another hydration bag to fill up, or direct the output into any other container. It just pours filtered water out the hose. Some things to keep in mind is that you may need to burp air out of the filter or it will run very slowly. You also need to maintain the filter by back-flushing for 4 seconds approximately every 8L. I just back-flush it every time I use it so I don't have to keep track. Enjoy saving $70 by being able to plug in a hose for yourself : )

Edit: On my last trip the silty water source clogged this thing up with a quickness! You definitely need some sort of pre-filter for large particles. When I got home it took me about 30 minutes of backflushing and shaking to get out all the gunk, but it seems to be working well again. With a little research I found out the system does not have a built in pre-filter so you would need one there too. I'm going to tape a piece of nylon onto the bottom of my rigged dirty bag and will report back how that works.

We used this filter on a couple of backpacking trips and it worked quite well. Couldn't be happier with it!

We took this on a 71-mile primitive backpacking trip to NM.

Clear running water from the streams was very easy to filter (and pretty darn quick!).
Water from slower moving streams and ponds, i.e. more sediment, took a little longer to filter, but would speed up with a 5-second backwash.

Changed the color of the water from yellowish to clear in no time!

works fast and easy. Headed to Appalachian Trail in 2013 with this as primary water filter since it works fast for two people
