A great book to get started, but leaves one longing for more,

I powered through this book in one evening, which says three things about it: it's enlightening, easy to comprehend, and short. The chapters are organized logically, and the content of each is succinct and well supported with examples. I did notice some typos such as "margin-below" instead of the correct "margin-bottom," which will serve to confuse the novice, but overall, I felt it was an excellent purchase-one I reference often. One of the most helpful sections appears in the back, taking sites designed using traditional HTML means and converting them to more efficient style-sheet-enhanced sites. However, as I attempted to put some of these suggestions to use, I found that they didn't work as the authors purported. But I found the thought process behind the conversions enlightening.Overall, I think this book offers the beginner a great introduction and the expert a excellent reference.

(Almost) exactly what I needed.,
This review is from: Cascading Style Sheets: Designing for the Web (Paperback)
Without a doubt, all the information I wanted is here. Some additional features I would have liked--a pull-out reference card more comprehensive than the backpanel treatment, and an easy-to-find discussion of the current state of compatibility in the popular browsers. That said, it's given me a good start on my CSS-based pages.

This will teach any webmaster how creating one CSS master sheet will make your whole site distinctive, but anybody who is on the learning track of HTML will be totally confused.

Not an introduction to CSS and/or web design,

Well written, easy to understand IF you are somewhat familiar with html. If you're looking for an introduction to CSS and/or web design, this book might bore you.I found the authors description of fonts and typefaces interesting.

Not for the beginner,

New to the web? Don't get this book. Very poorly written, not enough visual examples and too complex for a beginning webmaster. I was hoping for a clear explanation of cascading style sheets...this book doesn't cut it!

Simple enough for the beginner, complete enough for experts.,

Except for a few typographical errors (which I am told is common for technical books, anyway), I found the book to be one of the best computer books I've read in a while. This book is written by the guys who invented CSS.

A solid introduction to Style Sheets,

This is an excellent introduction to Style Sheets, the ways they are supposed to be implemented, and the logic behind them. There's little wasted space, just solid, useful information. Each chapter focuses on a specific element or elements in an HTML document and how CSS alows one to alter the appearance of the elements. In general, the chapters are clear and concise, though the chapter on fonts and text formatting is a bit overwhelming. There are useful examples provided that are very helpful. The only flaw in this book is that more examples of complex pages were needed, and the final chapters are largely focused on the future, tips, and miscellanea. More examples would have been appreciated. I found this an excellent introduction to Style Sheets, despite some flaws. Well worth the price for any Webmaster wnating to stay knowledgeable.

This was the first book I read about CSS. After reading it I immediately wanted to write my first CSS enhanced web-page. Believe it or not: it worked out just the way I had intended. This book is well written and well presented. But what I like most about it is that you can read it once and start writing your own CSS pages right away. It is so useful that I have two copies of it: one for work and for home!

Great Reference on CSS!,

If you are interested in learning about the Cascading Style Sheet spec., this is the book to get! Unlike the CSS docs on the Web, the text of this book is well-written, easy-to-understand and filled with lots of illustrations and examples.
However, the book suffers from the fact that despite the claims on the book's cover to the contrary that CSS is supported in Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, this is not entirely the case. IE and NN at present only support certain sub-sets of the CSS spec. As a result, you can't expect all of their code examples to work in either (or both) browsers. However, as Microsoft and Netscape (hopefully) come into line and adopt the spec., this problem will go away.
Well written, well presented, and bound to stay on my bookshelf at work as a handy reference for some time to come.
