Say what you will - there's very little middle ground in the case of one Donald J. Trump. He certainly seems to be polarizing, especially as of this writing and in the midst of a very contentious and very...adversarial primary season. I'm no spring chicken and I really can't remember a time when politics were quite like this.

Anyway, here after I just said there's very little middle ground, I'm here to stake it out. I don't know that I consider myself much of a Trump fan. I recognize his accomplishments, I concede his successes, and I grudgingly admire his bombastic nature. Is he Presidential? I frankly have my doubts, but those doubts aren't really informed or spoken to by this book. I was expecting something along the lines of his fellow NROnik David Freddoso's book The Case Against Barack Obama, but Williamson seems to rely more on implications and ad hominem than any clear disqualifications for Trump. In other words, the case against Trump seems to boil down to "Williamson doesn't like him."

One criticism has to do with Trump's speaking style and makes judgements with facts not in evidence. Well, I seem to recall George W. Bush having a poor speaking style, but I must have missed how that disqualified him per Williamson's criteria.

Simply put, and again I say this as someone who is not at all committed to Trump, but I find this work very unpersuasive. To be sure, Williamson is a talented writer. He is someone who is undoubtedly able to construct persuasive arguments. Before National Review went off the chain, I looked forward to reading his work, and I found his pieces regarding the Second Amendment to be wonderful. More's the pity, therefore, that he doesn't offer much in the way of substance in this book.

This is simple-minded latter-day "Yellow Journalism" at its worst - Williamson is an obvious elitist, deeply envies Trump's overall success despite repeated adversity, and deeply hates Trump for being what he (Williamson) cannot be, while being (in Williamson's "superior" view) inferior in all respects, but nevertheless successful at a high level. This is simply an empty-of-useful-content stab at the object of Williamson's envy and deep-seated hatred, and is a pastiche of semi-truths, one-sided (the hateful side, of course) "argumentation" and dishonesty. Pointed but wasteful, useless crap.

The only reason it has a one-star is because it is not possible in this system to register a no-star or a negative-stars review. Expend no time on this, and certainly expend no money - Williamson should receive no compensation for this garbage whatsoever.

Light on facts. Full of ad hominem attacks on Trump and his supporters - hilariously, even their manhood. That's right, Trump's popularity is a symptom of sexual insecurity in American men. I'll pause while you doubt me, but it's in there. Williamson is a smarter, better writer than this. I'm not at all a Trumpkin (go Ted!), but this is a waste of time and money.

Ive read several other books by Mr Williamson and can't help but feel he has allowed his personal dislike for Trump to derail his product. He references Trumps Chapter 11 restructuring to intimate Trump walked out on his debts - far from the truth. It is obvious Mr Williamson reaches for the extreme negatives throughout he entire book and in the process produced a piece of trash overcompensated with obtuse language. The PC police have gotten to Mr. Williamson. Sorry, the work is an extreme disappointment. Don't waste your time. This is the first book deleted from my kindle library. .

Never in my adult like have I read two books in a row where both actually felt like drinking a 40 back of bud light and then crashing into a car at 10 mphs. I don't know if there's lead in the water supply at the NRO or if Rich Lowry is just so unbelievably cucked that he's too far gone to save himself and his organization so he hires the worst and least bright journalists authors in the history of the world. If there's anything Kevin knows about Trump, it's that he knows how to make more grammar errors and fallacies of logic than even Trump's worst tweets while trump is high on acid jumping out of a plane. If you want to know why Trump will win the election, this is the book for you--Kevin literally vomited on paper and called it a classic, and this is the epitome of what the conservative movement in the USA looks like now.

The level of sheer vitriol that pervades every page makes this a miserable, unreadable slog. Kevin has dismissed with all pretense of objectivity as he subjects the reader to what can only be described as the single most intellectually lazy work that has been belched from the crumbling echo chamber that is NRO.

There is no way this guy gets what Trump has done...clearly he is going to be the minority in this movement Trump has created (awakening the American people).
