As a youth minister, I am aware that very few teens really understand the virtue of chastity; they tend to think that the Christian position on the topic of sexuality is simply 'don't do it'. In this book, Gallagher and Vlahutin clearly articulate the many reasons WHY we should live this virtue of chastity. Anyone who reads this book with an open mind will, I believe, become convinced that God's plan for our sexuality is for our good and makes sense. I recommend this book on many different levels - a great gift for teens as they struggle through the turbulent adolescent years, a welcome addition to any library (secular or religious), and a must read for parents - since in my work I have found that very few parents understand the virtue of chastity, and therefore find it nearly impossible to articulate a message of sexual purity to their teens.

Having known Pete, this book shows that the authors preach what they practice. Pete gave me this same advice when we were in college together and my marriage is better off for knowing him.

This book is also refreshingly faithful to the teachings of the Magesterium. (Thanks, Pete and Heather.)

Probably the best part of this book is all the testimonials that Pete and Heather compiled. This shows, in the words of teens themselves, what kind of impact chastity can have in the lives of real people. Their testimony along with countless others, bears witness that chastity is possible!

To paraphrase Chesterton, chastity hasn't been tried and found wanting. It has been wanted and found trying.

Be a part of the generation that shows that chastity is the only way to true freedom!

This book is a gold-mine for any teen or young adult who really wants to get the most out of their relationships and to prepare themselves for that most important relationship...their future spouse. Heather and Peter adopt an easy and attractive A to Z format to make a compelling and challenging case for chastity. What gives their case a lot of clout are the many stories of real-life teens and young adults and their real struggles, their real pain at making mistakes, and their real joy in choosing a chaste lifestyle. Heather and Peter have the guts to tell us the truth about our sexuality. It is a welcome and refreshing challenge.

This book is an excellent resource for teens, parents, and all those who minister to youth. The A to Z format breaks the book down into short, easy-to-read chapters that present the authors' message clearly and convincingly. The text is interspersed with real stories from teenagers, which makes the book relatable and relevant to teens living in today's sex-saturated society. Not only are the teenagers' stories real and enlightening, but the authors share a little bit about themselves as well to let the reader know that they, too, have chosen chastity. This book is a must-have for any young adult wondering why he or she should choose chastity. As a person who works with teenagers, I highly recommend this book to teens, parents, and everyone else who knows and loves teenagers.

A must read for teenagers AND for their parents. It speaks forthrightly and factually and does not shy away from the reality of teenage sexuality as experienced in this day and age. Scare tactics are not used to present chastity as the solution. Instead, chastity is the resulting positive choice one can make when presented with the beauty, richness, depth, true purpose and meaning of the God-given gift of sexuality.

I bought this book as a resource for my undergraduate Catholic club's discussion on sex and chastity. It's an incredibly comprehensive book that covers practically every conceivable query related to practicing chastity.
It doesn't rely on dogmatic statements --which never fly with the youth these days anyway-- but makes its case with logical arguments, all the while never forgetting that the ultimate reason behind chastity is LOVE. It's extremely easy to read, without being overly simplistic or unintelligent. I think it's a must read for every teen/young adult who is practicing or considering chastity.

I used A Case for Chastity with my high school juniors and they really enjoyed a new perspective that's contrary to our culture. They read the book and then we had many lively class discussions about chastity. It helped all of them to reconsider what it means to love love someone. Many of them seriously considered chastity for the first time. Others said it confirmed their decision to live chastely. Almost every students said they would recommend it to a peer. I would definitely recommend this book for teachers to use in the classroom, or for any teenager.

I highly recommend this book not only to people who are unsure about chastity but those who already have chosen it because of its positive encouragement. Through reading this book and the personal stories, I am ready to take on the challenge of living true and full chastity. I will definitely be buying two more copies for my seventh grade male cousins!

Well, I'll tell you. Balance. Not many people like reading thick and labor intensive textbooks. Who has the time or the effort? As well, not many people like to read books that are filled with a bunch of ramblings that amount to nothing. Why would someone give there time or effort to that? A Case for Chastity is neither so thick only a Rhodes scholar could appreciate it nor is it light in content! No, this book hits the topic head on and has a lot of practicality,...and that's just what's needed in our society because of the freedom that is afforded to young people. It's refreshing to hear the topic of love, including physical love, framed in a way that is appropriate to the beauty that is real love. The book is very respectful with the topic. This book, in part, tells the "whys" which are so critical because it respects our minds. In a very real way this book is good for adults too. I wish I was given this book when I was younger. Perhaps someone was too embarrashed to buy a book like this for me so my only education was from the world about love. Are you brave enough to get this for yourself or a loved one? This book is an exciting new resource for teens, or ANYone, who seeks a logical explanation for choosing to live the virtue of chastity. It's packed with true stories from people who've experienced first hand the positive results of choosing to be chaste, as well some stories of people's regrets and the consequences associated with not living chastity. I'm sure I'll be referring to it often for help when sorting out my own dating dilemmas, and when I want to find just the right words to defend my choice for chastity. This is an excellent and practical guide to understanding what an amazingly beautiful gift that sex really is, and why the Catholic Church would want us to treat it with supreme honor and respect!
