Book Description

May 15, 2007
Time for Trouble:

A mysterious letter brings Conan and his friends to a mansion full of beautiful clocks that aren't quite behaving themselves. As Conan attempts to figure out what's wrong with the timepieces and who wrote the letter, he uncovers a tale of treasure, thieves and a family tree with very twisted branches. Plus, a famous actor's wife meets with an unfortunate accident right in front of Conan, whose distrust of the woman's husband leads to a new investigation surrounding her sudden demise.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Gosho Aoyama, made his debut in 1992 with CHOTTO MATTE ("Wait a minute") which won Shogakukan's prestigious Shinjin Comic Taisho ("Newcomer's Award for Comics") and launched his career as a critically acclaimed, top-selling manga artist. In addition to DETECTIVE CONAN which won the Shogakukan Award for best Manga in 2001, Aoyama created the popular manga, YAIBA, which won Shogakukan's Award for Manga in 1992. Aoyama's manga is greatly influenced by his boyhood love for mystery, adventure, and baseball and he has cited the tales of Arsene Lupin, Sherlock Holmes, and the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa as some of his childhood favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time for Trouble Great Fun reading !, May 10, 2007
This review is from: Case Closed, Vol. 17 (v. 17) (Paperback)
As a " Senior" Adult finding the wonderly fun creations of Gosho Aoyama has been a wonderful adventure.

Where else can you find a 19 yr old super detective who becomes a First Grader who then lives with his girl friends family ( ah the wonders of youth!!) and has to solve crimes but give the credit to the bumbling detective who is his Girl Friends father.

That is the true magic of Japanise Anime! It is what is sooooo missing from most American writers today.

In this " case" Conan our now youthful detective must solve one of the most difficult cases of the series and ( to me at least) pulls Aoyama-San to a new level of creative writing while maintaining his great art work.

I also should note that Aoyama-San has a great way of doing him self " in" in each novel just to show how hard he works.

As # 17 shows we will all hope he continues in his own " doom" for many, many more cases.

FUN READING !!

3.0 out of 5 stars Better, but not better enough., May 30, 2008
This review is from: Case Closed, Vol. 17 (v. 17) (Paperback)
Gosho Aoyama, Case Closed, vol. 17 (ViZ, 1997)

Well, that's it, for the moment at least. Vol. 17 was a definite improvement over 16, though I can't quite put my finger on why; there was some improved pace (and I can't remember the last time Aoyama came up with a single-chapter mystery, if ever), though the series' shortcoming were still out in full force here. I probably will end up continuing on with the series, but I'm going to give myself a few months off at this point so I can come back to it with, hopefully, a more objective eye. ***
