I recently finished reading The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel (2004, Zondervan). I highly recommend this book for anyone with a scientific background. I studied Physics and Math at CU Boulder, and went from a Christian, to an Atheist, to an Agnostic, and then back to a Christian. This was actually good for my faith, but there were still lots of nagging doubts around science and God. This book helped tremendously. I'd like to briefly mention 3 items that really spoke to me.

The Big Bang
For some reason, people seem to think that the Big Bang theory contradicts the Bible. The truth is that Christians (and Jews before that), have argued for centuries that the universe had a beginning, and for the vast majority of that time they had a hard time convincing people (and scientists). Now, science has virtually proven that something (or someone) outside the universe caused it all to come into existence. Pretty cool.

Fine Tuning of the Universe
Not only did the universe `come into existence', it came in such a way that life can exist. For example, take the various forces (gravity, weak nuclear, etc.). They are so fine tuned to life (not just our life, but any life - we're talking no star formation, or the universe collapsing stuff) that just one part in ten thousand billion billion billion throws the whole thing out of whack.

The Cell
Far from being a piece of goo that got hit with lightning and turned into living matter, a `simple' cell is a very complex piece of machinery. It is like an automobile; with motors (cilium), memory banks, control systems, assembly equipment, a power source, conveyor belts, filtration systems, and the ability to self replicate in a few hours (no car can do that).

I have many friends who believe what we know about our universe is all the result of chance and random mutations. Strobel uses his investigative and journalism talents once again to confront the myths being propounded upon all of us in the name of science. He has assembled true scientific evidence that to believe in chance and random mutations requires much more "faith" than to believe we enjoy the products of a Creative Designer. From the inner workings of cellular biology to the outer cosmos, Strobel reports on how totally unlikely it is that our universe is the result of random chaos. It is interesting to me that pseudo-scientists will ignore the actual probability that exactly the correct atomic structures come into combinations at exactly the correct temperature to produce a single molecule; and then that single molecule must find other perfectly matched molecules to produce the simplest of living cells. Then they must gather around each other at exactly the correct environment to produce a living organism. Beyond chance and random mutations!

This book makes a very compelling case for belief in a creator. Strobel begins the book as an atheist who believes in Darwinism. When his wife becomes a Christian and is visibly transformed by her new beliefs, he sets out on an investigative journey to see what is more factual: Darwinism or creationism. He talks to scientists in various disciplines including cosmology, physics and biology. Let's just say, by the end of his journey, Strobel is thoroughly blown away by the evidence he encounters. This is an essential book for any creationist to have in their arsenal on their war against natural selection.

This is an awesome book. It accompanies the DVD Six Session Investigation of The Case for a Creator. We have accomplished great things with this particular DVD and book. It is great for assisting the attempts to get through to Atheists and it works.

It is an interesting study of the links between creation and science but gets a bit hard to follow in some of the segments. The class I presented it to were probably split 50/50 if they liked it or not. I think it a better fir for new Christians.

We recently did this in our Sunday School case following The Case for Christ and in comparison this one did not seem to have as much scripture foundation to make the case. Still had some good points but hard to follow The Case for Christ

this has turned into a favorite study for my congregation. in this world we are constantly bombarded by those who do not believe and this study provides the ammunition needed to answer back on a scientific basis.

My error, I wanted the leaders guide and bought the participant guide instead. I didn't realize that there were two guides
