5.0 out of 5 stars The best thing since sliced bread.
I wish I had found this book earlier in third year. Like others said, it's easy to read and since it's broken up into 60 chapters (which are each about ~10 minute chunks) it's great when you have little bits of free time throughout the day. Occasionally you'll read something that you'll want to look up elsewhere, but you can definitely use this as your primary textbook...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for clinic
This book explains diseases very clearly and is easy to read. It's good to read during your Pediatric rotation to give you a basic understanding of the most common diseases. However, the Shelf tests are notoriously hard, so don't make Case Files your sole study tool.

This review is from: Case Files Pediatrics, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
I wish I had found this book earlier in third year. Like others said, it's easy to read and since it's broken up into 60 chapters (which are each about ~10 minute chunks) it's great when you have little bits of free time throughout the day. Occasionally you'll read something that you'll want to look up elsewhere, but you can definitely use this as your primary textbook. I read this book ALONE, no blueprints, no A&L, no pre-test and my shelf score jumped into the 90's compared to the 50's before. Buy this book, it's absolutely money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent light read for Step 2 CK, October 12, 2005
I started using Case Files halfway through my 3rd year as it was gaining popularity. My shelf grades soared with this light reading. Unfortunately, I had pediatrics before I learned about the Case Files series. So, for Step 2, I needed a good review source. I read this in 2 days and peds was one of my best sections on Step 2. I can't stress enough how the layout of this series lends to a high yield review that doesn't take extreme concentration. This series is almost all you need for third year!

5.0 out of 5 stars satisfied med student, March 3, 2006
Case Files for Pediatrics is an easy-to-read high-yield source to study during the pediatric clerkship or review for Boards. It was a great adjunct for shelf exam preparation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read, January 19, 2009

This review is from: Case Files Pediatrics, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
I used this book as the sole source for my shelf study, and got a 77 on the shelf exam - not great, but definitely passing. It's a fairly absorbing book, can be read in a few sittings without a big problem. Obviously someone truly interested in pediatrics would buy a more complete textbook, but this is nice, with vignettes, bold print for the big points, and questions to test your understanding at the end of each chapter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, June 21, 2005
Although this is probably not adequate as a primary source when studying for the shelf, this book is excellent! For a study guide, it's actually a pretty enjoyable read. It contains 40 case scenarios that cover some common and not-so-common pediatric illnesses. It has also some useful tables, X-rays, and diagrams. I recommend using it in conjunction with Blueprints.

5.0 out of 5 stars Case Files Pediatrics Review, October 31, 2011

I am fond of all of the case files review books. Pediatrics, especially provides succinct and reliable information that helps to prepare for shelf exams. I like that they provided questions at the end of every case so that you can get a sense of if you retained the knowledge. It's also nice to have the full explanations of the questions to make sure you understand the thought process behind each problem. Case files works for me because they present problems and diagnoses from a clinical perspective that helps you to relate to the patients that you see every day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for shelf, November 11, 2010

I honestly thought I was messed over in peds because all I had was hospital peds. But this book by itself helped me do well on the shelf.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not detailed enough for shelf exam, August 30, 2010

I just took the shelf exam, and felt under prepared after having relied heavily on case files. If I was going to do it again, I would have used Blueprints or First Aid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not up to par with others in the series, April 2, 2010
Although this is a great book, it really isn't as good as other books in the series. I stilled enjoyed using this book for the same reason that I loved using the other case files series: fast read, clinically relevant, good for shelf exam. However, this book seemed to have some strange questions at the end of each chapter. While some of the questions were excellent, others were not well thought out and tested on some very strange things that would never show up on any shelf examination. Aside from that, the clinical cases presented are very relevant to what you will see in the clinic and on exams. Good choice for a quick read through one week before an exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money!, July 5, 2009
This review is from: Case Files Pediatrics, Second Edition (LANGE Case Files) (Paperback)
The Lange case files books are great, the pediatric one included. Putting this information into a case really helps make it memorable and manageable.
