Customer Reviews

Overall, an okay case for travel if don't mind the bulk.
ZenWoman
The case allows the iPad to be propped up at five different angles sideways, including the lowest angle, which is a nice typing angle.

A small inner sleeve that the iPad fits into that then attaches with velcro to the exterior shell.

Usually, I like Case Logic cases. However, for a slim and slick device like iPad 2 this cover misses the mark. This is my 4th cover for iPad 2, and I had better expectations.

On the plus side, the case has a nice texture and adequate padding. You slide the iPad 2 into the sleeve with a cutout for the screen and buttons. It then attaches to the main folding cover with a triangle shaped Velcro piece so it is easy to take off and hold by itself when reading. The grooves in the main cover allow you to tilt the iPad 2 to the angle you desire and it's pretty solid so the iPad won't fall easily. It provides better support than the smart cover to prop it up on a bed or a tray table in a flight. Since the whole sleeve holding the iPad 2 detaches from the main cover, you can also set it up in portrait mode easily.

The negative is the bulk it adds to the iPad 2 which makes it heavy and unwieldy. When I am using the iPad 2 I want it to disappear as I focus on the book or magazine I am reading or the app I am using. This does not happen with this case as the fit is not too great and I have to keep adjusting the iPad so that the cover does not obscure part of the screen. Also the case is nice for carrying around in baggage but adds unnecessary weight in a handbag or backpack. I've seen some other really low profile leather type cases in brick and mortar stores that have similar design but are thinner and lighter. This one has good construction but is not designed very well.

Also the velcro on the case tends to pick up dirt and grime, especially if you detach the sleeve to use the iPad 2 as it exposes the fibrous part that grabs all the lint it can.

Overall, an okay case for travel if don't mind the bulk. I prefer using my iPad 2 with the Apple Smartcover and a compatible transparent silicone cover for the back that does not add too much bulk.

To begin, I am using this case with a Le Pan TC970 9.7" Android tablet that happens to be almost the identical size to an iPad2. I took an exacto knife and cut out a small slit for the camera lens and trimmed back a small portion of the case to expose Android's controls, but other than that it will function for me the exact same way that it will function for an iPad2 user.

You probably know that Case Logic is one of the older and better names when it comes to premium cases. I've bought many of their products over the years.

This case is made from a thick, almost cordura-like black nylon material mated with a leather-like vinyl. There are 2 pieces to the slim profile case and they are held together by large swatches of heavy-duty velcro. You can remove the main enclosure of the case from the velcro-attached cover if you like, or you can mount the main enclosure sandwiched inside of the flap/cover piece like a book or a folio, or you can use the flap as a horizontal or vertical stand with adjustable viewing angles.

What I like about the case is that it's really simple to customize it for whatever your use is. The inside cover of the flap piece (for lack of a better term) has 4 notches on the inside which allow you to stand your iPad (or other tablet in my case) at a variety of different viewing angles. You can also flip your iPad2 vertically, attach the main enclosure to the flap with velcro and then use it the same way in that orientation, also using the slots or grooves on the inside of the flap to adjust the vertical position of the tablet.

It's actually a simple but very clever design. As with all Case Logic products that I've been exposed to, the quality seems to be very high and I'm sure that the product will last.

If you prefer the look and encased functionality of folio cases versus Apple's magnetic smart cover, then you really can't go wrong with Case Logic's iPad2 Folio. The only caveat is if you prefer your casing to be on the slim and minimalist side as this case does have a bit of bulk to it but for certain types (myself included) having this extra measure of padding provides an added measure of re-assurance - especially if you transport your iPad through somewhat rough circumstances. The looks on this case is quite stately and exudes a sense of professionalism if you stroll into a conference room clutching this case. The 4 adjustable positions to prop up your iPad also offers good display functionality.

AESTHETICS
It is a portfolio-style case. It is a mixture of faux leather and a canvas-like material. It's a nice mix of shiny black and dull black and looks attractive enough.

PROTECTION
This is designed more to be about function than protection, but it does have reasonable protection. The inside of the front cover has some very stiff material crossing the cover that give lots of protection for the screen, although the front cover doesn't have any method of clipping or fastening shut. The back cover is a soft material, so if it did fall from a table and the corner of the iPad hit the floor, it could be a problem depending on the angle.

FUNCTIONALITY
After using it for a week, I really like it's functionality. The case allows the iPad to be propped up at five different angles sideways, including the lowest angle, which is a nice typing angle. You also have the ability to pull the case from the stand (because of Velcro) and stand it upright as well. You can secure it upright in with any of the four iPad sides up. This does allow you to use either the front or rear cameras with the case on, which is a must. Like I mentioned in the previous section, I would have liked a method of fastening it shut (maybe some magnets inside the cover and the front flap).

Overall, I'm very pleased with this case and would recommend it if you don't need maximum protection.
