Great case!,

This review is from: Case Logic VNC-17 17-inch Value Slimline Laptop Case (Black) (Personal Computers)
I ordered this carrying case for my 17" laptop, and I am delighted with the storage capacity and quality. There is plenty of laptop room with a couple of inches of width to spare, and there's an adjustable padded strap inside to keep it from sliding side to side in the excess area. There is also a velcro strap to hold the laptop firmly in place when it and the case are closed. As others noted, I can zip open the case and use the laptop without taking it out, a feature I was particularly looking for. The case is well padded, and has plenty of pockets that add storage but not bulk. There's not enough space for anything thick like textbooks, but flat notebooks, folders, or small books would easily fit. One of the pockets has loops and pockets to hold pencils, calculators, business cards, and other small items. The bag has a handle and a detachable shoulder strap. This is a great case and the price was far below what I expected to pay for anything like it.** Added later ** Another Amazon customer cautioned me about the need for laptops to have vents unobstructed so they won't overheat, so using your laptop in the case is not a good idea; I'd like to pass his warning along. In my use of the carrying case, I have found it is easier to just pull the laptop out anyway, especially with the power source and occasional thumb drives sticking out.

We just use the case for storage at home and for short local trips, but we love it! With an adjustable velcro strap inside, we can safely and securely fit our large HP notebook. Plus there is enough room for the plug! The front pockets are helpful, too. Great for holding the wireless mouse. I would feel totally secure taking this laptop case on a longer trip. If you are wanting to combine your laptop case with a briefcase, this isn't the bag for you. While there is adequate storage for a personal user or a digital scrapbooker (like me!) there isn't enough room for tons of paper.

Pros: Well made.Lots of pockets for storage. Holds my 17" wide screen laptop. Shoulder strap. Price. Cons: A little more padding on the bottom would be nice. They should have added a dedicated cell phone pocket.

This is an EXCELLENT Case!,
This review is from: Case Logic VNC-17 17-inch Value Slimline Laptop Case (Black) (Personal Computers)
I recently purchased my first laptop, which has a 16 inch screen. I looked in a few stores for a case for it, but most of their cases were for laptops with a 15.4 inch screen. I did not want to spend a whole lot of money for the case since I will mostly need the case for storage at home, but I did not want to just buy a "sleeve" since I know I will be traveling with the laptop occasionally. I wanted to make sure my laptop is well protected but not spend a huge amount of money. I decided to purchase the Case Logic VNC-17 17-inch Value Slimline Laptop Case (Black) and I am thrilled with my purchase! My laptop easily fits into the case. There is one strap that goes over the one end of the laptop. My husband felt that there should have been two straps, but I pointed out that there is a divider that can be adjusted in the case so that it fits snug against the other end of the laptop to ensure that the laptop doesn't slide around in the case. On the other side of the divider, I was able to easily fit the cords and charger. There is a pocket on the lid inside the case where I put the mousepad, but you could easily store papers or other flat objects. On the outside of the case, there is a large zippered compartment on the front with places where you can store disks, 2 loops for storing pens, a pouch net where I stored the mouse, as well as another pocket for small papers or any other accessory you may have for your laptop. On the outside of this large zippered compartment, there is a smaller zippered pocket where you could store papers. On the back of the case, there is another pocket where you could store papers. There is PLENTY of room for storing everything you need for your laptop! There are 2 ways in which to carry this case. You can either use the handle or the shoulder strap. The shoulder strap has a pad that can easily be adjusted so that it fits right on top of your shoulder, which helps alleviate pressure from the weight of the case when your computer and all the accessories are stored in it. Just one added plus: the company was EXTREMELY prompt with shipping this product! I chose to go with the free shipping, so I expected it to take about a week to receive my case (it said 5-9 days). I ordered the case on a Wednesday evening and was shocked when I received it on Friday morning...less than 48 hours after I ordered it! I don't think you'll be disappointed at all if you purchase this case!

Pros:1. Light weight Cons: 1. Poorly made: - Within 24 hours of use, the zipper broke (the part that you pull on came off from the zipper track). I hammered the loose part onto the zipper myself to fix it (it was quicker than returning it). - Strap broke within about 3 weeks of use. The strap is attached by plastic hooks with a relatively thin wire clip securing the strap hook onto the bag handles (SEE THE PICTURES). The wire bent, came out of its holes and no longer secures the strap hook in place, leading to me dropping my laptop a few times, whenever the strap hook unhinges itself. - The zipper handle broke again, leading to me loosing the part after about 4 weeks of use. 2. I personally do not like the fact that the main laptop compartment opens up completely, 180 degrees rather than from the top only. This was especially aggravating when the zipper broke and everything inside could fall out.

First of all, the main reason I purchased this product is because its page here currently and at the time I bought it specified that it is 19.5" wide, making it wider than any other laptop case I've been able to find. With a 17" widescreen laptop, I was hoping to use every inch of that valuable extra space to help store my power cable with brick (which is one of the smaller kinds), and maybe have a little room left over for a mini-mouse. However, when I received this, the packaging it came with said that it was 18" wide. I put my laptop inside and was only able to fit the main part of the detachable cable with brick inside with no leftover space. It was disappointingly snug. I figured the 18" referred to on the packaging was in reference to the width of space available inside the bag. But that prompted me to get a tape measure and measure the outside back of the bag myself. And I discovered that this bag is in fact no larger on the outside than 18.5", at most. It is not 19.5" wide, and that extra inch and a half or so would have made a difference, not only for storing a small mouse, but being able to have the computer plugged into power with room to spare while it still sat and was usable from within the bag, diminishing the threat of the common and potentially expensive problem of dislocating the terminal inside the computer which the power plugs into. However, after going to a local electronics superstore, this was still as wide a bag as I was able to find from the others which I browsed, so I have decided to settle for it.Also, I sometimes have to struggle a bit with the zippers which open to the inside. The other zippers, on the front, pocket area operate more smoothly for some reason. There is also a white tag sewn into the inside "lid" of this bag that curls back around towards the zipper and presents a potential snag risk. And finally, in addition to the above, amazon marked the price of this product down by over $8, less than a week after I received it. Ugh. I was originally going to be a bit generous and give this 3 stars, but after going over all of this and typing it out, I have to say that my overall experience with it warrants closer to two (and maybe a half). EDIT: One additional annoyance which didn't become apparent until I'd had this bag for a week or so was that the swivel hinges which connect the shoulder strap to the bag make noticeable squeaking sounds when I walk while wearing it, which has the potential to be a little embarassing in public. Despite all of the above, I decided not to go through the hassle of returning this bag, and discovered that with Amazon's Post-Order Price Guarantee, I was able to get a refund of the difference in the price change that occurred after I bought it, which was a relief. UPDATE JAN 2012: R.I.P., Amazon Post-Order Price Guarantee. Anyway, I'm bumping my rating up a star. I've had this bag for over 4 years now, and it's held up impressively. Over time I adapted to mitigate most of the issues I had with it: I use a Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black) which saves room since it's wireless and the dongle/adapter is very small. I don't try to stuff the cord which comes out of my laptop's power brick into the side pocket; instead, I curl it loosely over the laptop. (I'm posting a picture.) Unzipping the bag's main compartment is no longer an issue. I'm not sure if it's because the zippers eventually got "broken in" or if it's just because I adapted to the feel of using them. The inner tag has only snagged a few times, and if it ever became a bigger issue, I would just use some scissors to snip it off. The hinges still squeak with every step I take, but holding the bag with my hand around the forward-most hinge while I walk helps to reduce the volume a bit. Maybe sometime I'll try spraying them with WD-40 to see if that gets rid of the noise completely. It's somewhat annoying to see that the product description still claims that the bag's dimensions are "19.5 x 4.6 x 13.9 inches". But, considering its longevity, I now believe that this was a worthwhile purchase.

This case was a good value. It is compact and makes efficient use of space. My laptop has a 15.6" diagonal screen. It fits just fine, but without extra space. My power supply, cord and wireless mouse all fit into the exterior zippered compartment. This case does the job that I need it to do.

I just recently purchased this Laptop case and it fits my 17 inch HP like a glove. it has 2 pockets on the outside to store powercords and Cat 5 cables if you go somewhere that is still in the dark ages. It would have been nice to have a small seperate phone pocket but I am not complaining. I will recommend this bag to everyone of my friends and relatives if they ever get a huge beast of a machine like I got.

This is an excellent lightweight notebook bag for 12" to 14" notebooks. It fits my 14" non-widescreen Latitude D610 perfectly, and has an interior width-adjustment bar for smaller notebooks. It weighs 2.0 pounds, and has a velcro strap to secure the notebook. Many other cases weigh 3 pounds or more or are sized for 15" notebooks. The exterior pocket has enough space for a power brick, network cable, and mouse, and also some interior pockets. (Nice touch: The exterior pocket, when fully unzipped, can be opened to a 90 degree angle for easy access to contents.) There is a smaller zip pocket where the yellow strip is which you can use for receipts, business cards, boarding pass, keys, etc. The bag overall is a little thicker than many trendy sleeve-like over-the-shoulder cases available (seems to be a lot of those for Apple notebooks), but the extra space is for a notepad or padfolio and a few thin folders (there is a sleeve for that too). Nylon. Okay padding on all edges and sides. Looks sharp.Cons: Need to check whether this fits a 14" widescreen (max interior width is ~ 13.5"). No back sleeve to slide over roller bag arms. No room for textbooks (if you expect to use this daily to take with you to your office, except to carry those in another bag). Not much pizazz/luxury factor.

Based this purchase on quality of Case Logic CD cases I had in the past and reviews, unfortunately this was a waste of money. I have a 17" HP laptop and it fit very well, I loved all the pockets, but after just a couple of days, the strap that holds the computer in place came out the seams, I was dissapointed at the shoddy work but was able to overlook it then the next day the small cheap metal mechanism that connects the shoulder stap to the bag popped off during my trip out of the country. I wasted my limited funds on such shoddy work and will see if I can get a refund. I couldn't enjoy even a month's use of it. Pass this item up and look for a better upgrade or manufacturer.
