Excellent, Concise Review for the CCM examination,
By Carol A. Mazzanti (Melville, NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Case Manager's Study Guide: Preparing for Certification (With CD-ROM) (Paperback)
The Case Manager's Study Guide with CD-ROM was the only reference book I used to prepare for the CCM exam. It is a very informative and concise manual which, unlike many books on the subject of Case Management currently on the market, is very easy to read and understand. The CD-ROM was especially helpful in preparing for the certification exam. And, I passed the examination with flying colors! Even now, I keep the manual in the office to use as a reference guide when I need clarification on certain issues.

Goal Achieved!,
By Barbara J Harding, RN, CCM, PAHM (Maidens, VA United States) - See all my reviews

A Case Manager's Study Guide: Preparing for Certification works well for the motivated self learner. The information contained in the book is thorough and concise. I felt prepared for the test after I completed my studies. The test questions, with the added benefit of having them on a CD-ROM, provide the learner with an excellent opportunity to prepare for the certification test environment, especially if you have test anxiety! I just received notice that I met the qualifications and passed the examination to be qualified as a Certified Case Manager(CCM).

This book was my primary study guide and I passed the exam the first time I took it. I found the book helpful and would recommend it.

Highly recommend. The format is easy and test questions are at the end of each chapter as well as an explanation as to WHY this is the correct answer. In addition, there was a CD of over 600 questions of test questions including in my edition that is extremely valuable to reinforce your knowledge base. Easy to read and understand.

On target study guide!,

The first time I took the CCM exam I failed by a couple of points. I bought this study guide because it covered a lot of the questions on the exam. The guide included a lot of hospital case manager issues that I was not familiar with as well as payor sources. I am convinced this study guide helped me to pass the exam the 2nd time around.

As a general and overall review, this is an excellent guide. Not having a CCM, I used to teach the content since I have both CRRN (certified rehabilitation RN) and CDMS (certified disability management specialist) which overlap the knowledge area for CCM (certified case manager). I found this to be an excellent review, and it covers a lot of information nicely. Few small points I would have seen changed: in the review questions, the stem does not stand alone in a few cases. For example, one review question has a distractor that includes contacting a patient's employer.... nowhere in the stem does it indicate we are talking about worker compensation, and the industry term "claimant" or "employee" or "injured worker" is not used. Leaving the correct choice the wrong choice for the question asked, since blindly contacting a patient's employer would be a frank violation of privacy. Also, the general use of "she" when referring to case managers is dated and certainly not gender inclusive. Licensed professional social workers, counselors and nurses are not all "she." So, those are small irritants. I will say that this is an excellent overall review, though, and certainly worth the investment. An added learning reinforcement is the included CD. Nice product.
ADDED 8/2/08: I passed the CCM examination, and this is the only study material I used, so I recommended it! EB

This was the only source I used for the CCM exam. During the exam I felt very comfortable. Yes, I passed! Suggest this strategy: read chapter, take test at end of chapter, if you do not score 80% or greater, reread chapter and retake test until you do. Pay special attention to the author's explanation of why the answer is correct.

Don't rely on this study guide,
By Barbara Campbell (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Case Manager's Study Guide, Second Edition: Preparing for Certification (Paperback)
This text was only helpful in that it presented topics that could then be researched using reliable sources. The study questions were extremely redundant, often with contradictory answers. In some cases, the text copied content directly from a public source (like Medicaid information) but then misinterpreted the information in the question and answer section. I found that some of the study guide "answers" were obviously incorrect when compared to the "gold standard" sources of information. Some topics that were emphasized by this study guide were never covered on the exam, while the exam included questions that were not addressed in the study guide.

This was the basic book that I used to prepare and study for the CCM exam. It is a total career change for me and I think this book enabled me to pass the CCM exam. It will be a good reference if/when I land a new job,
