I've had the Fuel Holster for about 6 months now, and overall I'm satisfied with the product. At 2300 milliamp hours, it's one of the largest batteries you can get in a case for the iPhone. The three indicator lights on the front do a good job of indicating how much battery time is left on the Fuel.

The build quality of the unit is very good, if not excellent. I'm rough with any cellphone and this case has done it's job in protecting my phone from accidental drops. The belt clip works well, but is fairly loose on a dress belt and the bottom lip makes it difficult to remove and replace the case while wearing it. Still, the case is light enough for the added features and worth it for the extra power it provides.

To preserve the iPhone's internal battery, I run the phone exclusively from the Fuel, and the phone automatically switches over to it's internal battery when the Fuel is drained. I typically get a day's usage out of the Fuel before it's completely drained, which isn't bad at all, as I still have 100% charge on the iPhone itself. I am a heavy user of my phone, as I work in IT and am constantly on wireless, email, internet and using other tools of my trade.

There are a few glaring flaws with this product. The on/off button to turn on the Fuel is located on the front, making it very easy to accidentally switch the Fuel's battery on or off without realizing it. Secondly, I wish the belt clip were detachable. While belt clip style holsters work for some phones (BlackBerry's have nice holsters), this one is cumbersome at best.

The most glaring flaw with this case is it's inability to charge both itself and the iPhone at the same time, despite what is claimed in the manufacturer's documentation.

I've used this case for my iPhone 3GS for a couple years now, mostly as a secure mounting and power supply for my motorcycle. On short rides like to work or around town I just use it as a mount, but for long (several hour) rides I can use it to power the phone as well. I have a mounting plate installed on the gas tank and the belt clip secures nicely to that so the iPhone display is just below my instrument cluster. I also use this when away from a power source for many hours so I can freely use the iPhone without worrying about draining its battery. I've been very satisfied with the build quality and usefulness of this product and I'm hoping CaseMate has or will have an iPhone 4 version since I'm now upgrading and won't be able to use this case anymore.

I received this case as a gift and have been using it for almost a year. I have dropped it many times and my phone and case still work fine. Only con I found is the belt clip is not detachable, I was getting into my car and caught the case on the car door, breaking the belt clip off of the case. Because it is not detachable I have to buy a new case instead of just the clip. I am a medium user of my cell phone and with this case I get two and a half to three days use before cell and case are dead. prior to getting the case it was all I could do to get through the day without recharging the phone. I would recommend it to anyone!

As a case and backup battery this works great. However, I have run into problems recharging the Fuel. According to the website it should recharge an empty iPhone and the battery in about 6 hours. When I try to charge just the case it takes me on average about a day to get it to recharge. I don't know if this is the norm or just my case but something to be aware of.

I was skeptical about the Fuel based on earlier reviews but I was very pleasantly surprised. The iPhone fits very snugly in the holder and the clip is stiff enough to not rotate unless I want it to. I can now last an entire day on one charge. I am very pleased.

I bought this case to take on a trip to Italy. Although not small and sleek this case will provide EXTRA BATTERY LIFE! I used it the entire 9 hour flight watching movies and playing games. I love it and can't complain one bit. I bought it for the 2300ma battery and it's the best at giving you extra juice.

Shortly after purchase I pulled at the phone and case to remove it from my belt. The clip snapped off the case. Studying the issue, I saw that the eye loops (yoke) that accept the metal pivot bar were made of plastic and had failed, releasing the pivot bar and making it impossible to reassemble.

Since this was a problem with the clip only, I thought it would be a simple matter to acquire a replacement and a couple extras and I'd be back in business.

No such luck. "... we don't sell the clip by itself..." wrote Alma, from customer service at CaseMate. So was I to buy a brand new case to replace a case only two weeks old? Not likely.

I'll carry the case in my gear bag for charging, but without the clip, it becomes something of a less attractive proposition.

The charging aspect and overall design of the case seem reasonably good, but the clip and lack of an available replacement for an obviously weakly designed piece amount to deal breakers in my book. (The eye loops should have been made with more durable material.)

This applies to the iPhone 3G version of this case.

UPDATE: Alma wrote a nice letter back explaining that CaseMate hasn't carried the 3G line for fifteen months. Well, I bought one from a retailer. So no customer service on select items, or-- how exactly does that work? I think the product might well be supported for a time after its removal from the official line, but maybe that's just me. Caveat emptor, as the saying goes.
