5.0 out of 5 stars A Love That Transcends Time, June 6, 2000
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
Across Culloden Moor, Kate MacGillvray found herself face to face with the man of her fantasies, her past, her present, and her future. Or was he simply the end of the nervous breakdown she was surely having? Her heart knew this man as surely as she knew her own name, but how? This was her first visit to Scotland.

Running from her present and a man she didn't want in her future, Kate decided to visit the homeland of her ancestors and clear her head and her heart. She needed time and space to come to terms with the loss she had witnessed.

Alec Lachlan swept Kate off her feet, making her ache for a man in ways her ex-fiance never had. But, Alec had informed her that, after his failed relationship with his female physician fiancee, he would never fall in love again and he would surely never marry. And he would run from another female physician. Kate knew she had to tell Alec the truth about who - and what - she was, but the timing simply wasn't right.

When the truth is revealed, though, it threatens to completely destroy the relationship that Alec and Kate had forged. With all she loves lost, Kate faces the past, the present, and goes back to Scotland for one last chance at the future with Alec.

"A Case of Nerves" is pure Scottish magic from cover to cover and will make you believe in a love so strong it truly transcends centuries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful summer reading, June 19, 1999
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
Starting into Angie Kay's "A Case of Nerves" was like stepping into the Brigadoon she utilizes for the story line..When Kate finds her heart's desire among the memorial stones of Culloden this reader found herself transported back to her own youthful visit there. Kate's joyous story allows us to imagine that a splendid Highland clansman is there for each of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was surprised at the depth of this romance novel., July 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
The historical accuracy of this novel surprised me. I was not expecting this from a "romance novel". Angie Kay's future is bright. I can't wait to read her upcoming medical thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great scot and Great story, September 14, 2007
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
Dr. Kate MacGillvray has discovered her fiance is a cheater and on a whim, finds herself in Scotland on the fields of Culloden. After having visions of a 18th century soldier in the mist who seems very familiar, Kate then meets modern day Scot Alec Lachlan. Alec is everything in a man she has ever wanted and makes her everything in a woman her former fiance said she couldn't be, enthusiastic about life and passionate about love. Dr.Alec Lachlan is drawn to Kate, but having been hurt by a former love, tells her he will never marry and never date a woman doctor. Kate is too excited about the promising sexual tension between Alec and herself to tell him that she is a doctor, somehow she knows also that this is the man she is meant to marry. Oh well, she will just have to change his mind. After Alec introduces Kate to his family, she starts having visions of the past and finds out that the man and woman she dreams about were really real, they were Caterona MacGillvary and Alex MacLachlan.....are Kate and Alex and destined to be together or is their relationship doomed to failure.

I loved this story, Alec is just what you would imagine a perfect, modern day hot Scot would be and Kate was real, although sometimes you wanted to choke her. Great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A charming synthesis of fiction and historical fact., May 19, 1999
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
This first effort by Angie Kay is notable on many levels. The deft interweaving of character, plot and historical fact in this work is arresting. Also prominent is the lucid depiction of historical sites, such as the Culloden battlefield. I visited many of the sites mentioned in the book last year and Ms. Kay's descriptions brought them alive for me again. I am not a regular reader of romantic fiction but picked up this work because of its subject matter. I teach classes in British history and I am going to recommend this book to my students as an aid to their understanding. The book's sensitive portrayal of the historic events; its demonstration of the relevance of history to our lives today and the fact that it is a jolly good read lift it above the common throng of popular fiction. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light reading, very funny and very cleverly written, May 12, 1999
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
Never having read a romance novel, I was pleasantly surprised with the depth of both the characters and the plot. I was expecially amused at the clever interplay between male and female, Scot and American. Angie Kay is a talented writer who should try her hand at non-genre fiction, although I would certainly read another of her romances should she decide to take that route.

5.0 out of 5 stars "the perfect book", May 13, 1999
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
We all wait for the perfect love. The author's lyrical romance describes the 'case of nerves" we've all experienced in one way or another. Alec and Kate find the love we all dream of, but so few of us find. The Gaelic expressions add to this rich story, and I could barely put it down. Make sure you have a couple hours when you pick it up, because the book will devour you like the loch ness monster.

5.0 out of 5 stars swept away with the spirit of scotland; a must read, May 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Case of Nerves (Perfect Hero) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kay transports you to the scottish moors and then back to the 20th century, and it's a ride filled with excitement and lust. Her detailed descriptions of the landscape and structures can only be written through the eyes of a keen, scientific observer. The author clearly understands the trials and tribulations of a modern woman, and i found in kate macGillvray a kindred spirit. Read it as they say, in "slainte mhath"!
