4.0 out of 5 stars Good buy - VERY small book, August 3, 2004
This review is from: Case Studies in Breastfeeding: Problem-Solving Skills and Strategies (Paperback)
When this book arrived in my mailbox, I almost passed out. This book is smaller than some Harlequin books... and it is not a cheap book. (I was expecting something about the size of the Biology of Women... which goes to show something about expectations.) At 196 pages... 6"x8"... it's a bit more concise than I nromally look for in a lactation text.

I must admit, that now that I have read the book, it was worth the purchase. It has good information that inspires one to go research more information (a GOOD sign, in my opinion!). There is valuable information presented in a very clear format. (Cases are resolved in level point form.)

I gave this book four stars because it is a solid book. I didn't give it five stars because it's a bit underwhelming. I think it could have been expanded more to create something exceptional. I probably wouldn't rank this book as a "must have" book, but I would classify this as a "good book to read" especially if you're preparing for the IBCLC exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent case-study text, May 16, 2004

This review is from: Case Studies in Breastfeeding: Problem-Solving Skills and Strategies (Paperback)
I purchased this text after attending a Lactation Counselor training taught by Karin Cadwell and Cynthia Turner-Maffei. This book is filled with case-studies which reinforced the information that was taught at the training. This book is a must for anyone providing support and counseling for breastfeeding Moms and babies.

This is an excellent book. It's worth whatever price they're charging for it these days. It teaches you to approach clients with totally fresh eyes and not to miss vital information by jumping to your own conclusions. And it reads like a mystery novel - who could ask for more!
