Book Description

0070575673 978-0070575677 January 1992
The book is designed so that it can be used either as a core or supplementary text in educational psychology courses, in elementary or secondary methods courses, in classroom management courses, or in student teaching seminars. It is designed to be used as a supplementary text along with another more theory-oriented text. An extensive instructors manual accompanies the text. Each of the 28 cases contained in this volume documents a classroom event or sequence of events. Each is designed to reflect the complexity and uncertainty inherent in classroom situations in which there is seldom a single, decisive solution to a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping account of teaching conundrums, August 11, 1998
By A Customer
An excellent way to look at classrooms and put yourself in the position of a teacher with a problem. It really made me think, and allowed me to take more than one perspective on problems that on the surface seemed clear-cut. The cases are complex and detailed, yet not too long. A must read for teachers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Problem Solving Book, April 29, 2011

I don't know who "A Customer" is but he/she gave it 5 stars and called it "gripping", which I beg to differ with. I have to agree with "saxs" who at least has the courage to use his/her moniker to go along with the review, thus lending it some validity. This book does not offer problem solving techniques, just case studies with which the teacher or student teacher has to come up with the solutions and techniques to be used to ameliorate the situations in each case. If you're looking for help or guidance, this is not the book for you. This book should come in two parts, one with the case studies and the second part for suggestions from experienced teachers on how to solve the problems brought up in each case study.

1.0 out of 5 stars Excuse Me?, September 17, 2010
This book was the biggest waste of my cash. Buying this book or stuffing a hand full of dollars down the toilet would be the same. The book didn't contain one SINGLE tactic to deal with ANY of the issues. Not one word. If you know nothing about handling a class, you'll know nothing after reading this book!! To this day, I wonder, why didn't the author have a follow-up paragraph from each teacher, explaining techniques they utilized. Let me guess, not even the author has the answers to the questions we seek. WASTE OF CASH!
