Book Description

0070576556 978-0070576551 December 1, 1995 2

This book of 37 problem-solving case studies in Education can be used either as a core text for instructors who teach by the case study method or as a supplementary text for instructors who want to supplement their instruction at either the undergraduate or graduate level. The book's sections correspond to core courses in the teacher education curriculum.

A problem-solving case is a story based on an actual situation, but a story without an end-a story that leaves the student-reader puzzling over what to do. Problem-solving cases can be short and simple or rich in detail and multi-layered in problems, but they share the distinction of being based on reality and of ending with a problem or dilemma to solve. Their goal is to encourage student-generated analysis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping account of teaching conundrums, August 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Case Studies for Teacher Problem Solving (Paperback)
An excellent way to look at classrooms and put yourself in the position of a teacher with a problem. It really made me think, and allowed me to take more than one perspective on problems that on the surface seemed clear-cut. The cases are complex and detailed, yet not too long. A must read for teachers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Problem Solving Book, April 29, 2011

I don't know who "A Customer" is but he/she gave it 5 stars and called it "gripping", which I beg to differ with. I have to agree with "saxs" who at least has the courage to use his/her moniker to go along with the review, thus lending it some validity. This book does not offer problem solving techniques, just case studies with which the teacher or student teacher has to come up with the solutions and techniques to be used to ameliorate the situations in each case. If you're looking for help or guidance, this is not the book for you. This book should come in two parts, one with the case studies and the second part for suggestions from experienced teachers on how to solve the problems brought up in each case study.

1.0 out of 5 stars Excuse Me?, September 17, 2010
This review is from: Case Studies for Teacher Problem Solving (Paperback)
This book was the biggest waste of my cash. Buying this book or stuffing a hand full of dollars down the toilet would be the same. The book didn't contain one SINGLE tactic to deal with ANY of the issues. Not one word. If you know nothing about handling a class, you'll know nothing after reading this book!! To this day, I wonder, why didn't the author have a follow-up paragraph from each teacher, explaining techniques they utilized. Let me guess, not even the author has the answers to the questions we seek. WASTE OF CASH!
