i enjoyed this book. not what i usually read, but i tried it. was interesting and not slow moving like i thought it would be. was mildly suprised. i did look inside the book before i bought it and it was written by one of my favorite authors. the story is about an older, kindly vet and his wife, who are more interested in helping people and the animals than in making a lot of money. very enjoyable.

Delightful!,

It is Doc McKenzie's second mystery. The Case Book ventures into turkey farm country.Veterinarian Austin McKenzie and pack set out to solve the murder of Lewis O'Leary, owner of one of the most enormous turkey farms in the Northeast.Lewis O'Leary is insolent, irascible, and as scurrilous as they come.Despised by all including his three sons and two daughters-in-law.It appears all the evidence points to the local feed salesman, Gil Finnegan, whom Lewis has blamed of shorting his feed orders. However, Dr. McKenzie believes that the evidence is too rehearsed; thus he begins noticing Lewis O'Leary's legion of enemies.First of all there is the greedy family who stand to inherit, the post doctorate student who needs him to sign off on the data from a study that he has been doing on the farm and the animal rights activist who is determined to shut him down. The characters are endearing and the animals being cared for and respected make this a pleasurable read. A delightful series.

I enjoy this series of mysteries and this may have been about turkeys, but it certainly wasn't one. The Doctor's command of the English language is very witty and appreciated, although not by all the characters in the story.

What's the motive??!,

Though this is another fun entry into the life of the curmudgeonly Dr. McKenzie, and the "how" of the murder was nicely tied up, the "why" of the murder was not addressed! In fact, according to the story-line, the murderer has every reason to keep the victim alive! I had to go back and re-read the ending twice to see what I had missed. I hadn't missed anything...the motive is not given. It seems Ms. Bishop just got tired at the end, and needed to find a way to finish the book quickly....

This started out as an interesting new series from Claudia Bishop. Love the Hemlock Falls series and this new one is off to a great gobbler of a start! Can't wait to see what will be next! Great, fun reading.

This review is from: The Case of the Tough-Talking Turkey (The Casebooks of Dr. McKenzie) (Paperback)
p 128 ... I GOT THIS FAR BEFORE I NOTICED ANY MISTAKES ~~ WONDER WHAT I MAY HAVE MISSED ...
lst paragraph word "Y'all" is spelled "ya'll" ... the meaning of "Y'all" is "you all" ... there is no meaning for ya'll; very bad proofing here ... next see pages 180 and 181 ... the word corpse/body/GARBAGE/whatever is missing ... "...when the murderer moved the ? into the dumpster?" what did the murderer move into the dumpster??? page 181 has several: at the end of 2nd paragraph "This was a man 'with of' sternest ethics." "with" or "of" not both ... next para "... whereabouts after than time." what time? that time? last para ... LAST SENTENCE "... SWIPE IT, REPLACE IT WITH ... , AND REPLACE [WHAT] WITH ... AFTER" IMAGINE: more that 4 errors in two pages ... who proofed this one ??? look real close ... you may find ones I missed.. barbara your brave bold and true "Texas Bluebonnet" |
