5.0 out of 5 stars THE REAL CASH, May 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
Cash: An American Man exposes the real Johnny Cash for the man he was: a kind, caring, brilliant and sensitive gentle giant.

As you peruse the beautifully illustrated pages of this masterpiece, you get the feeling that you are spending time with the Man In Black himself. He's sharing his poems, his private letters, lyrics and art work and so much more. You are given a glimpse into the soul of the American legend and international icon.

The book, in addition to educating you about Mr. Cash, prvides an invalubale "museum," if you will, of so many important artifacts that Johnny Cash wanted the author to share with all of us.

I read above that the proceeds from this book are going to a charity; so much more reason to buy it and forever honor the memory of this very special man we all love.

5.0 out of 5 stars "We're all the same in the eyes of the Lord...JRC", June 2, 2004
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
I too, watched the memorial on the Larry King show with the family members and the author,Bill Miller. It was an excellent program and showed how much the family liked and appreciated the book and their friend Bill Miller. It is obvious how much Cash liked Bill and how Cash gave him so many things, probably feeling they could be entrusted with him and one day be shared with all of John's fans and friends. It was only this relationship that lasted over 30 years, that resulted in this wonderful book for all of us to enjoy.Every turn of a page gave a new insight into Johnny's life.As great as the book is,I was left with the feeling that all we got was a brief glimpse;and how much more we would like to have.It seems Johnny sensed this and gave everything he had to his friends, family and fans and his Lord;and it seems that nobody ever got enough. There are many precious things in the book, especially the art by Johnny;which came as a great surprise to me.The poem he wrote after visiting June's grave and the song"My Lord Has Gone" shows he retained his talent right up to the end.
Thanks,John for all the great music you gave us;and thanks Bill for this fine book of memories.

5.0 out of 5 stars LARRY KING SPEAKS OUT, May 31, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
I watched Larry King tonight and he called this book "The best biography/picture book ever done on a show business personality." He also said "Every home in America should have this book." I've had it for several weeks, and Larry is right!

5.0 out of 5 stars AN INTIMATE GLIMPSE INTO THE LIFE OF CASH, April 30, 2004
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
I was stunned when I found this book yesterday.

I have been a fan of Johnny Cash ever since he released his first American record and have gotten more interested in Johnny Cash, the person, as time goes on.

When I flipped this book open, I was amazed. It is a fabulous 'museum' of artifacts, many handwritten by Johnny Cash himself, laying his life out for all to see. The photographs are beautiful. The words are beautiful. After reading the book from cover to cover, I feel as if I have spent time with Mr. Cash. I feel like he's an old friend...or maybe even a family member.

It is so interesting to see how Johnny Cash wrote songs; it is insightful to read his poems to his wife June Carter Cash---several when she was alive and one after she died. There is a letter written to his daughters when he was on tour in the 60's; letters written to him by Presidents...it's an awesome display of Johnny Cash---the performer, the legend---and the human being.

A visual feast, I would recommend this book to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Addition To My CASH Collection, May 21, 2004
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
I have been a CASH collector for years, and this is a welcome addition to my collection. Wonderful, previously before unreleased pictures, and Mr. Miller has generously donated all of the royalties he is entitled to recieve from the sale of this book to SOS children's village, a very worthwhile organization. An absolute MUST read...(and collect)

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!!, June 22, 2004
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
Bill Miller, who put together this book about The Man In Black from his own personal collection of Johnny and June Carter Cash memorabilia, knew him well, loved him and was loved by him for many years. The love that Bill Miller had for Johnny Cash is apparent on each and every page from the International Fan Club button with June's autograph to the last lyrics Johnny ever wrote. There were times when I laughed out loud.. and there were times when I had to hold the book upright to keep from staining it with my tears.

An amazing book about an amazing man compiled by a friend of Johnny Cash.. What more could you ask for (except for it to go on for many more pages)!

5.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD CAUSE, May 24, 2004
By
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
Not only is this a wonderful book which Johnny Cash would have loved, the author is donating 100% of his royalties to Johnny Cash's favorite charity, the SOS Children's Village in Jamaica. Johnny Cash supported this orphange for many years, and it is appropriate and generous that Bill Miller is giving ALL of his royalties to them in Mr. Cash's name!

Besides that, the book is fabulous!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS THE BEST!, May 13, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
My dad got this book and we spent a long time going through it together.

I didn't ever know a lot about Johnny, but I know A LOT NOW! He was really one of the beginners of rock and roll and country. Even though I'm a kid, I do like his music and the Hurt video.

It is cool to be able to see how Johnny wrote songs and letters and how he crossed things out and made them different when he worked on them.

I really like the story about Johnny giving the money to the poorest kid in the high school and helping the man with one leg to to the hospital. He sure was a good man and I really know much about him and his good ways now. My Dad said that Johnny Cash is one of the most famous men in the history of our country and I believe it after seeing that he got letters from Presidents, movie stars and other important people.

It was also cool to see the Bible studies he did. It made me relate to his home work when I saw that his teacher gave him A's on his studies.

I'm taking this book to school and my teacher said she would let me read from it and show it next week. I know my friends will think it is really cool!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection on paper, May 18, 2004
This review is from: Cash: An American Man (Hardcover)
Johnny Cash sang of a 'Tear Stained Letter'. Bill Miller's new Project is a 'Tear Stained Book'. Written with the love and passion which joined two friends together on a magical journey. 'Cash An American Man' is more than an intimate look into the life of America's greatest treasure, it is the " High School Annual" of Johnny's life. This book shows the mystical, spiritual, & Enigmatic immortality of Johnny Cash. Mr. Miller has given Johnny's family as well as the world a "backstage" view into the soul of a powerful man.

Since his death, a lot of books are being written about Johnny Cash. This new book by Johnny Cash's friend, Bill Miller, captures the image of the man with much warmth and great understanding. Up til now, famed Nashville DJ, Ralph Emory, has been my favorite to write about Country Music and it's greatest celebrities - Now I have become a big Bill Miller fan. If you latch on to a copy of this book you will not be disappointed. Johnny Cash ROCKS.
